I’m sure many of the loan terms are favorable to the companies
but they’re still loans
the govt isn’t going to issue loans to every household and even if they did they could never expect them to be paid back
the overall point is you can do this type of thing for a short period to keep a company as a going concern
you can’t do this for an entire country that depends on wages
as for why airlines are strategic
we have a huge country
the govt isn’t prepared to take over passenger air travel for the entire nation if all of the airlines fail
Curious - just how long do you think we can keep America closed?reopen america

manufacturers sure, agreed. But airlines? One reason the aircraft business is high on the list of priorities is that the US companies sell a lot of very expensive aircraft and parts and training to customers all over the world. It's a significant export to our economy. Big barrier to entry for would-be competitors, so if these companies go down in the U.S. they may never come back up.
Oh, I don't know..... a concentration camp?Work will set you free...
Where have I heard that before?
yes, and? If some of them had to restructure in bankruptcy they'd still be buying, though likely on a smaller scale. Or new entities would pop up and do the same. Those are among the customers of those manufacturers.
Do you think they realize this and trying to be edgelords, or just ignorant cretins?Oh, I don't know..... a concentration camp?
why either or?Curious - just how long do you think we can keep America closed?
Don't give me some answer about testing.
I'm talking about an actual time frame.
mhmm so what’s the problem here?Trillions for the some of the largest corporations in the world and more tax cuts for the richest of the rich; pocket change for the working cogs.
They need bodies in the factories to make money. Get moving.

Because you mocked the idea of opening up.why either or?
Please explain.why not focus limited resources on those that need it most like these people working at Walmart among others?
he’s looking for an indirect bailout of Footlocker and the meth market, duhBecause you mocked the idea of opening up.
Without providing context.
I'd still like to know how long you think we can exist in this sort of economy. (?)
Please explain.
i mock the idea of reopening everything without adequate testing/contact tracing in place. this is what the protestors want (as well as rich business owners funding the protests) and it's idiocy.Because you mocked the idea of opening up.

What?at the end of the day you don't want a thoughtful solution; just an argument.
if necessary, congress will enact universal income; your dream of societal collapse isn't going to happenWhat?
I've written essays here, today as a matter of fact, on thoughtful solutions.
Have you read them?
Also, when it comes to testing, I'm in the Osterholm camp.
You still haven't given me any sort of answer as to how long an economy can stay closed without collapsing.
How are human lives on the line?Just as many, if not more human lives are on the line the longer we experiment with a close economy and the repercussions of it afterward
