how long can we go with 25%+ unemployment?

you want a repeat of the 1930s?

it’s avoidable but not for long
Of course I don't want that but we are years away from bread lines.

We are going through a minor economic speed bump and people are saying how we should worry more about the jobless dying from starvation (fiction) than 2000 Americans dying from covid per day (fact).
It's a false dilemma.

As always, the solution is somewhere in the middle.

Neither locking down the economy or reopening it completely are the answer.

As always, nuance and counterintuitive solutions are needed.

if necessary, congress will enact universal income; your dream of societal collapse isn't going to happen

Money machine go brrrr?

You really think that's not going to create an even larger implosion further down the road?

He thinks this is "economic hardship" like a light recession, not full on 1150 BCE societal collapse and a new Dark Age that we're playing with

That is a fate worse than death for many

I fear a cult akin to global warming is emerging

there is nothing that will tip these types over the edge into “its ok to open”

I'm really glad that this forum has a good bookmark saving system.

I'm saving yours and Caca's rupture posts for later.

I always regret I didn't save y'all's posts when you were defending Boeing with your life.

I will go on record to say if we don’t broadly reopen the economy by June we will have negative GDP of >10% in 2020 and unemployment of >25% in 2021

You don't think that when businesses open up again they will employ people?

I'm no economist but that doesn't seem likely.

That's all you've got from everything I've said?

I'm not for a complete lock down FUREVERS but advocating completely opening the economy right now is equally silly.
we’re past the triage stage

This is about what can we deal with long term

there will not be a mandatory testing/tracing regime

there will not be a vaccine

So what do you do?

Not at the same level but some

lt is going to be bad no matter what
Well sure but it's nowhere near as doomy and gloomy as you and especially Caca and ifail are portraying it.

Unemployment is at 20% right now since everything is closed and people got laid off.

How many of these business' actually went under during this time and will not reopen?

I'd like to see that figure.

I can give you a couple of examples

one friend of mine owns 6 hotels

he laid off almost all of his staff

another friend of mine owns a costume jewelry design/manufacturing company

he laid off all of his workers

both of these guys are rich enough to not have to work again if necessary

their employees are less fortunate

maybe they’ll open again maybe not

the longer this goes on, it trends toward not

Oh it's gotcha time for both you and BillyOcean.

Isn't this the very shakeup to the status quo you desired when you voted for Trump?

Nope. That shakeup was about governmental operations. Not expanded government power

Although you are right and it is good that the states are operating by themselves
