16. Worked at a little local old school butchershop. Had to clean the big meat grinder, the band saw, scrape the saw dust off the floors in the meat locker, etc. on the daily. Came home everyday a stinking meaty mess. 16 year old coworker nailed one of the 20 something checkers and opened my mind to the possibilities.

"brown baggers" at your local grocery store are multi-taskers now or
The cashier, after once ringing you up or the MOD / Manager on Duty.

and, speaking of first jobs, am I the only one who was already selling grass to my fellow restaurant workers at age 14?

Man, the 90's were awesome.
Bought my 1st kilo in Tijuana at 16 for $80,00 after surfing K-39. Sh!t dirt, rocks & stems and so-so for a 1st time buyer and got schooled, but from then on ~ ~ ~ ~
Columbian, Tai Sticks, Maui / Kona, etc through the decades ......

Thai sticks were all the rage in Nado in the late '70s and early '80s.

I was 12 when my dad taught me how to clean the pool and adjust the chemicals. That was my first job, but outside of the home, I worked at an ice cream/candy store in Manhattan Beach for a couple of years. Then a prep cook at Sizzler and finally slinging pizzas, fried chicken and ribs at Pizza Man in Hermosa Beach. That was the killer job in the early 80's. I got invited to a lot parties with my food connections. 1650665789374.gif

I really liked the Tai Sticks back then. Best weed and packaging. I wish I had one right now. :shaka:
And let's not forget the Puna buds. But the stoneyest weed I ever had was the "real" Colombian Gold that was seedless. That was a mind bender.

Had a good run with Colombian and Kona at the top of Ski Run Blvd in the late 70's early 80's in Tahoe. Paid the rent and then some ~ ;)

90% of the time, I'm bagging my own groceries. It's weird to watch people just stand there while the cashier rings them up.
I still find it really weird today. Happened yesterday. Standing in line at Target and some family all standing there watching the checker (they don't really even have baggers at Target, do they?) bag everything. Then it's my turn I'm like "give me a bag and I'll do it." They always seem so surprised. Don't ya have something better to do that stand around and watch?

I was a bagger at Vons on Turnpike/Hollister in Santa Barbara for 2 years, then service deli (hot/deli counter), then bakery, then price change crew, then deli/dairy (milk/cold box). The deli/dairy department manager, Bob, I think, used to keep porn mags in the rafters inside the walk-in. Pretty sure he was fucking the really ugly homely woman who worked with us. Eventually I was sent down to the downtown location on Chapala to be a checker. The asst manager downtown, Bob, was a Viet Nam vet who threatened employees with violence, but never did anything. The store manager at the time had been sent there for fucking multiple of his employees at other locations. All the Vons misfits from Goleta to Carpinteria were sent to Chapala location when their managers hated them. Mine hated me. I was downtown for another 3 years, which ended in 2004 (I was 23) when I moved to Santa Cruz. Fun times, and great money for a college student. Met a LOT of girls working down there, met my first wife working there actually.

A cashier. I was 18, and I needed some money to leave my small town, so working as a cashier was the only available option I had. When I turned 30, I applied for the Latest Government Jobs, and I'm still working for the government. Now I'm 42. So, that's what my life looks like. Actually, I love every job I've had in my life. I've always been grateful for any opportunity that I've been given in my life. I think there's no wrong or shameful work to do. So, let's keep this thread updated, guys.

My first real paycheck was earned at 13 raking blueberries. Bent over all day and earning $2/26 pound tray. It was more of a lesson my parents wanted to teach me than a way to earn any real money (even as a kid). Mowing lawns was *way* easier after that. Better money too.

At 16, my mom got me placed at the local library. I put books back on the shelves. My coworkers taught me some of the fine points of "hiding out" and "slow working". Example, it would take 2 of us 20 minutes to take down the flag and fold it. We would always fight over who got to go downstairs and lock up the garage. At that time, the library was a nighttime hangout for the kids at One-Off's school. Let's just say there were a lot of distractions to perv on. That was a fun job.

My grand ma was a bond maid in England.

Poor families would sell their unwanted kids to work in the estates.

You are a slave but they didn't call it that.

That was her first job.

But then she ate a piece of the left over cake of the rich family and they sent her to work as a slave in the bars.

Usually when you worked in the bar, it meant being a prostitute.

That was a second job.

I was a box boy.
