Unless Slater has controlling shares in FW or something, I don’t see how legend guy (is he in witness protection?) can pin their business practices on him.
DLS on surf splendor podcast said in latest grit that slater owns 70% of FW. I was surprised by that. Not sure if true-just relaying what he said. They discussed same issue as this thread.

Probably same, why would you have any assumption of different?

Anyone can order, all over the world. I would encourage it. His shapes have had rave reviews here and elsewhere. You don't have to worry if everyone says you're not cool.

Legendary Australian shaper has been at the game for generations while discovering spots and surfing for money to move on to being an innovator and shaper to world champs. His shapes are cherished around the world. Yes, he's a little burnt out but wants to keep doing what he's doing and there be as much opportunity as possible for those that want to follow a similar path.
You're being coy.

Wayne Lynch? Dick Van Straalen? Simon Anderson?

Wow, really?

Could you tell us exactly how we can order from this legendary shaper?

A name would be a good start.

The posts were made anonymously but if you know you know. It's not my place to put his name out there just like it wouldn't be for me to attach any of your real names and workplace to any post you make. That ain't cool. If he'd written under his real name I would say.

Who is the shaper? Can you order a board now or books closed like many shapers? How long are the wait times?

7. Ordering a custom surfboard is still (in 2022) one of the shittiest customer service experiences in any industry even when everything goes smoothly.
My last 4 customs were: 1. a local shaper 6'6'" Desert Storm with custom dims and swallowtail.
That involved a beer with local shaper and board came out perfect, absolutely magic. On time or before.

2. Dave Parmenter 7'3" Vector Cuda on an Aus trip of his. Lots of back and forth via email, while he was travelling. Complex construction, he shaped the blank glassed and sanded by local bloke (Bryan Bates). Board came out perfect. Magic.

3. Local shaper mid-length bight with govt stimmy money. Delayed manufacturer because glasses lived across border which was shut for weeks. Shaper was upfront about delay, offered to refund deposit. Board came out close to perfect (slightly different spray).

4. Custom from Maurice Cole. Lots of back and forth via email. Board came out perfect but damaged by courier.

Will bang again.

I dunno what to say- I've had great experiences getting custom made surfboards.

My only guideline is you need to accept and freely choose a shapers design strengths.

ie Maurice specialises in concaves and full board tucked edge rails- so then we just needed to dial for my specific requirements.

My last two Pyzels off the rack have been awesome too, made so well here under licence.

Caveat: I have kicked out of a few (rarely) custom processes early if I think there's no effective communication happening.

Before I could drive I ordered my first custom boards from the local shop, my first one was a Donald Takayama single fin, I loved that board, but then twin fins hit, and I ordered a Canyon bat tail twin shaped by Rusty, I loved that board even more. Eventually thrusters hit and I got my drivers license so the first time I ordered a custom board from a shaper by going to see him I was 16 and drove to Mike Richardson's (Electric Duck) house in I.B. That was a terrifying experience! Not because of Mike, he was super nice to me, but he had two huge dobermans that appeared to want to kill me, and anyone else who came to the door and knocked. I was sweating the hole time and it was winter. I got 2 or 3 Electric Ducks, but damn those dogs freaked me out every time. Finally, my friend Al Cleland was getting so many deep barrels on his David Craig boards that switched over to Craigs. Dave was a true craftsmen, super mellow, and no dobermans!
