What are your realistic expectations of when and how the beaches will re-open?

from San Diego UT paper today. Hope for SD.

“The mayor said he had met with city Parks and Recreation Department members and lifeguards about restrictions on beaches, and there might be an announcement on some gradual, phased reopenings next week.”
You mean this tyranny will not go forever?

Ifailalot is sad.

Los Angeles~California!
saw this a moment ago on ABC7 news:
Ventura County takes steps toward easing stay-at-home restrictions but officials urge caution

~snip~
Starting Sunday, businesses like car dealerships and golf courses can reopen, but some restrictions will remain in place. The modified order allows for non-public serving businesses to operate with no more than 10 employees and allows for gatherings of up to five people.

Hikers headed outdoors to Santa Rosa Valley Park over the weekend to take advantage, though parking lots to the parks remain closed. Park bathrooms, playgrounds and tennis courts are also still off limits but some beaches were opened.

stocked for ya up there!

Opening some beaches doesn't make sense. What is the goal? If you open up some beaches, but not all of them, you had better only allow some people to use the beaches, but not all of them. Otherwise there will be crowds. Why not open all the beaches if you are going to open one? If you open only half the trails, and the same number of people go hiking...

Depends on the trail...

Exactly.

Opening Lowers where people sit on top of each other and opening some beach break where people can spread, is not the same.

I know, it's stupid to expect nuance from string cheese.
Runyon Canyon =/= Bear Canyon Trail (Old Baldy).

That day ate my soul. :ROFLMAO:

Only opening some beaches doesn't make sense. Limiting hours to only morning and evenings also makes no sense. It forces people to congregate and increases cost for enforcement.

I know, it's stupid to expect nuance from string cheese.

Nuance as in treating each area in the way that works best for it, not issuing blanket orders that force every place to get the wuhan and NYC treatment?

Nuance like understanding that it's better in many ways to have the beaches and ocean open and let that be, than force the stay at home order to the farthest possible literal point?

Or is it the nuance you prefer, being strongly of the opinion that an epidemiologist cannot be wrong, even when they have been on many major accounts so far?

It's working well here. Despite news reports using fake photos. The main thing it does is it keeps the inland riff raff out (mooostly) and keeps it to mostly locals who truly care and just want to surf/exercise.

we never closed our beaches for swimming, surfing, fishing, and exercise

as long as you are in the ocean you're okay once you step out you better be heading home

but the tourist that keep coming are just ruining it all for all future tourist flaunting the 14 days quarantine rule getting locals sheltering in place from waimanalo to koolina pissed taking pictures and videos and complaining to the authorities who will have no choice but to enforce their lame plan of leaving it to tourist's best judgement and the honor system.

Just do like Kauai and put up road blocks which west Maui is doing now. Also start ticketing all the parked cars clogging up the beach approaches like in waimanalo especially rental cars. They cracked down in lanikai and kailua so they are moving to wiamanalo. They started ticketing in Ewa Beach after closing the road to Haubush and having the neighborhood complain to the people that closed the park of all the parked cars showing up clogging their streets.

The problem outside of hawaii is the haole view of "surfing" as "just a sport" and not part of the culture like other water activities here native or not. Beach activities and health activities are viewed differently here I guess. There's actual laws in Hawaii that prohibit access for cultural activities to either the mountain(like maunakea) or the sea.

You folks need to get busy and get some of your important cultural practices to include the ocean instead of it just being viewed by your city councils and local governments as a playground for delinquents. Kind of like that religious cult in Puna who was pushing that Puna Butter was an important component of their religion, that they worshiped it. Unfortunately they went to jail for growing and distribution. Nice try though..

In fact there's a big north northwest swell hitting hawaii as I speak.
