Maybe the 5150 is the way to go in those punchy closeout shore break waves. The flat nose is interesting, Tomo says it helps prevent pearling. I have a Tomo vanguard and I've tested its pearling limits. Surprisingly, when you think its going to pearl, it doesn't, but it will pearl if you try hard enough. The most interesting thing on the 5150 is that rocker out the tail, extreme rocker on the rails, but flat down the middle. Combined with stringerless DFT, seems like it will flex and contour nicely in hollow shore break. Nathan certainly makes it look magical.

Someone may have addressed this earlier in this thread but... is there a noticeable difference between Stretch's "gen1" fins vs the "gen2"?

Yeah the 5150 looks sick. Makes me even more confused.

BigC I run st2 on all my boards. I love them. I know that doesn’t answer your question.

I have both -- the gen1 have a bit more rake than the gen2, which are slightly more upright. They are super similar.

I tend to ride the gen2 in my shorter boards (6'0" and 6'9" 2x4) and gen1 in bigger board (7'6"), but have ridden both in the 6'9" and couldn't feel a substantial difference.

I'm positive this is in here but what's the consensus on quadfish fins? I saw a guy surfing one yesterday and it looked like magic, and as if by fate there's a used one in my size.

You want a split keel. Either the stretch buzztrollers or seaworthy controllers worked well for me. I found there wasn’t enough drive in the regular, balanced quad sets.

2nd that, buzz trollers for sure!

I actually love them on my superbuzz too, 5.125's up front, then 4.0's in the rear, that is one rad little board.

Good to know, I've got a set of fiberglass controllers sitting around. Looks like they don't have any buzztrollers RightNow.

I also know this is in this thread somewhere, but how big are you guys overfoaming your QF's? I usually ride 31L and the one I'm looking at is 33L, seems like it should be perfect for chest high and below SD waves.

My daily driver shortboard (5'5' x 19.5" x 2.25") is around 25-26L and my quadfish is 29L (5'3" x 19.5" x 2" skate deck) and it feels great. Definitely paddles better than the shortboard and has a higher top end, but I can still put it on rail.

I wouldn't exactly call it overfoaming, just that a fish outline is going to have more volume than a shortboard and still go well.

An extra 2L seems reasonable. My fatbat is about 3-4L oversized, but I like it since I can sit way outside with the long boarders and poach waves with them.

I have an overvolumed QF and a more bladey no wing version . Weaved through a nice tube on the chippy one the other day . I like the small buzz fins with the 4.0 rears In it but find nin the thicker winged one the ST2 feel better

2x4 step up ? to those who have one how big and wide you go compared to dd?. I am 5'8 170# and like to use mostly at big beachbreak or reef with h20 moving. Current Stretch dd to step ups goes:
5'2" 19.5" 2.375" Superbuzz quad FU#2
5'7" 19" 2.18" sk8 Buzzdaw quad FU#2
5'11" 18.75" 2 375 F4 quad Stretch honeycomb Future

I have a 6'4" that I love. Its 19 x 2.5. I went narrower than my smaller wave boards but kept the same thickness. The step up file keeps a lot of foam forward and then foils it out beautifully. My favorite shape when conditions call for it. Not sure what to tell you size-wise. We're probably very different sized humans.

I'm 5'7" x 155 and ride a 6'9" x 19.5" x 2.7" 2x4 step-up. Live in SF and surf OB most of the time, so my board is skewed to the dumb amount of paddling and current we have here. I asked Stretch for the widest/thickest board he would make at that length for someone my size and that's what I got. This is the board I ride when it's on the outer bar here but I might actually want to turn the board compared to my 7'6"+ crafts. My "DD" is a 5'3" x 19.5" x 2.0" quadfish so hard to compare. For it's size board is plenty maneuverable and super confidence inspiring.

I think elsewhere you could get by with something a little narrower and much shorter. I rode a 5'11" x 19.25" x 2.4" or something here for several years before I realized it sucked for the paddle, but went good when I could actually catch a wave.

Thanks guyz I was thinking 6'4' or 6'3 like to keep short like all my Stretch boards yet plenty paddle power. I was thinking 6'3" 18.75" 2.18" sk8 deck but of course wait for Stretch input on dims but way premature need funds...

My 2x4 is 6'10" x19.5x2.7 38L total. I'm 6'1" 185lbs and surf around OBSF as well. The board rips, it's my go to board for anything over head up north here where its always a battle with the current. My old DD for reference was a 6'4" at around 32L, but now I mostly use my 5'9" 2win or 5'10" fatbat depending on wave shape.
