In a word: Yes.is it just my inexperience?
try surfing 6 hours everyday for a decade on an island in the middle of the pacific with world class waves. it makes me wonder -- does 1/2" really make a big difference in ones surfing? maybe ill make my next board thin. completely flat deck with very little rocker? very possible.Im just kinda weird, i have always been fascinated with things that i cant do in the moment. Especially with something i love (surfing). Something in my head just clicks, and i wonder ... If i weigh the same as AI, i have a good build, similar to his, i am the same height, why cant i ride the same board as him and rip the same way. Its just experience, but riding a 2.5 while pros ride a 2 - 2 1/4 just seems like im not surfing to my potential, for whatever weird, un comprehensible reason.
Odd are your shaper may tell you not to sweat the tail outline so much. Rocker, thickness, rail countours, foil, etc., are ultimately more important to the board's handling and your happiness with it. The difference between a squared squash, rounded squash, and roundtail arent gonna be as dramatic as many other elements that are more subtle in appearanceOH, and im going to talk to my shaper and discuss more 1 on 1 exactly what he thinks i should be riding, and i think that will be a little more helpful.
Loosely put, it's the way the thickness is carried throughout the board.By the way, whats foil. sorry for the bad question, again.
