Heavily rounded squash, opposed to squareish squash.

<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Personally, for sure I'd rather go out on a 9' gun by myself than surf any 3-4' day with anyone.
You can make that 8' gun or even 7' gun.
I grew up surfing with 2-3 other guys in the mid '60's, pioneered some spots in the late '60's, and don't need a crowd for any reason.

Uh.... BirdR and LJC are two entirely different kinds of waves, and the size difference can favor LJC by double.
LJC is deep water, out in the bay, water moving around, currents, upwellings, much much mushier, moves in faster, peels..well if depends, but normally slower per size, and needs much longer, better paddling boards.
That's a generalization, some peeps surf LJC at around just overhead, so it won't apply.
Fish handle arms reach overhead, no problems.

his dad just got a 8'0 x 18 x 3 from rusty himself, it was just laying around the shop, and no one wanted it during summer so he just gave it to him. mabey he will let me use it if we go to the cove.

That size is SWEET!
Should work anywhere in waves needing a semi gun.
You gotta try it.
My new Plumeria is a 8' x 19.6 x 2.85" thick, wish it were narrower.

Ya the board he got is reallyyyyy nice, pretty thick glass job, gloss finish with a green pinline airbrush along the rails. But its gonna feal like way to much foam for me at first.

Not if you dropped in on a real (not Texas, EastCoast, or SoCal measurement) 10' wave. And if it's 15', like close to TOH, that board is too small!
Water volume increases geometrically, not by just "double the size, double the water volume".
Go out a Sunset someday, and you'll know that for 10' waves there, almost everyone is riding high 7' sizing semi guns.
