Thee Fear,
is allll in your mind, boyz...

any of ya,
you ever have a large shark, of any species, come at~cha whilst surfin'?
if not, then what ya be afraid of?
Holywood?
hmmmm...

here, below, is "Spot",
seen swimmin' in thee loc' waterz off Los Angeles, 8 yearz ago ~ {2013}:
"Spot" should be an adult by now!
wa~ga!!!

i hope that he, or she,
this animal, an apex preditor,
whom lives 24 hourz a day, 7 dayz a week, out there,
is still alive, nourishin' it'z body by eatin',
+ it is by now: F**Kin' + Reproducin',
yow~za!!!

i am sorry, boyz,
if your opinion, is ah, well different then mine,
oh well...

but this, all said, err typed,
well i really want ya to go + surf, kidz,
for they, they really don't want to eat you.
for if they did, they would sure~ly tell allll their friendz how gooood you taste,
how easy it is to hunt ya, so as their buddies can then go, + get~cha, too,
hahaha...

^^^ this SO MUCH!!!

Been cruised in the line-up more times than I can remember. Normally chit my suit, but always stay out, let people know what you saw, they practically learn to speed paddle in seconds... If they could, they'd walk (RUN) on water to get out.

Then, you all alone, pick of the waves, noone to mess up your line as you surf.

One time, snorkeling off Isla Lobos, at Marrajo Point, (that's Mako Point, for those unfamiliar with Marrajo) my buddy saw one, tapped me on the shoulder, when I turned to see what he was pointing at, literally saw the fish twitch it's tail twice, disappear so fast it was unbelievable.

Most times, they are looking for something else along the bottom, and despite knowing of course that you are there, pretty much ignore you like an old piece of uncomfortable furniture that noone wants to sit on at a party.

I must add, all my experience is with Makos, as they are the most frequently found here.

Never seen a White, but would love to... From a big boat, of course!

I've heard this attributed to two things:

climate change (of course)

and a change in migration patterns

No idea the validity of the above
Bigger populations of critters way down the food chain. Same reason we have been seeing soooooo many more whales nearshore here. More bait=more sharks

Nearly every day I surf or even just spend a few minutes down the block looking out at the sea, whales breach and dolphins swim by in sometimes massive pods. The coolest is when you can see the dark schools of bunker and the whales lunging upwards, mouth agape, swallowing thousands of em at a time

Been just as spooked at certain spots. Taste the water - salty - sharks
Years ago there was a good swell breaking at the base on the westside of Kauai. Some kind of big shark was cruising around about 25-50 yards from the lineup, plain as day. Everyone pretty much ignored it. Felt safety in numbers, I guess. I went in, but only because I'd been out for long enough. ;)
