My school would be open 5 days a week. Those who don't wish to attend can opt on-line if they wish. Teachers who don't wish to teach in my school are free to go work at a grocery store.
Schools are open either 4 or 5 days a week. Some are doing 5 days with alternating A/B cohorts, some are doing 5 days a week with everyone, some are doing 4 days in person with Friday virtual learning.
How would you recommend, based on the available scientific information, creating a safe environment for students and their families? Your approach is just "send 'em back in".
What happens when a staff member gets sick? How do you replace him or her? What happens when a student gets sick? Do you send just that student home or the entire class? And do their siblings and parents now have to quarantine?
What happens if people start taking the virus home and giving it to grandparents?
In one school near me, ON DAY 1, a teacher had to quarantine due to being exposed to a person who just tested positive. Same with a student in the same school.
How do you deal with scenarios in which multiple teachers have to quarantine and the school is short a few staff members? Hiring subs (long and short-term) or replacements is virtually impossible right now.
