Just on the sand with a towel over the top of it. I guess I am kind of trusting.

I always think, in areas of rampant theft, a great deterrent would be for the cops to place something like a backpack on the sand or a car with a wallet on the dash with a clear view, and then position a sniper a hundred yards out or so and just pick off the thieves one by one with gutshots. With a cleanup crew on standby of course.

Can't just leave it in the open and have sniper practice. You end up knocking off the occasional do-gooder.....says the guy who have returned a purse and two wallets over the years found at dawn at the Beach the day after a hot day in the City.

I hear you on that. That's kind of why I like the idea of a locked car with a wallet on the dash. People with slim jims usually aren't do-gooders.

Hello

Am getting into surfing and wanted to know what the best options to do with the car key.

I was thinking of gettings a simple key made without the remote control nor RFID (needed to start the car) and tie it one a string and wear it aound my neck under my wetsuit.

The idea is that I would leave the regular car key locked in the cr and use the simple key just to unlock the vehicle.

I just got a Rip Curl Omega suit and don't beleive it has a key pocket.

Thanks
You are a socialist, Right???

Just leave your windows rolled down. Everything will even itself out.

Your wetsuit doesn't have a little pocket on the leg for a key? I use that. Is mine going to stop working?!

Pfffft,
Friends should not let Friends hide their car key on a car!

Hey pal,
if ya still don't get the drift of what Thee F**K this ol' timer is ramblin' on about,
maybe this LAPD bulletin, posted on the WWW, askin' for thee publics help a coupla yearz ago,
of which i am forwarding it onward for your consumption, when we had, from what i recall, 6 carz stolen in short period of time, from some pepz whom i've met @ a fun, mellow surf~spot where Great White Sharkz have been known to jump outta thee loc' waters forever it seemz, well maybe, just maybe, this thread will help get you kooks, err kidz, who have no clue, to think, maybe it'll help impress upon your brain that ya need to figure out some~thin' better to do with your car key b4 you go + paddle out, ride a wave or 2 or 20, before work, school, family duties, or even so afterwards, mayb, just maybe this thread might help ya learn that ya better do some~thin' b4 you too get ripped off. Ya dig?

Read below a snippet, ok?
Los Angeles:
The Los Angeles Police Department, West Los Angeles Area is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects responsible for vehicle thefts at Will Rogers State Beach.

On May 1, 2016 around 10:30 a.m., a victim parked his car on Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard with his keys on the wheel wells. When victim returned, he found his car missing from his parking spot. It is common practice for surfers that frequent the area to leave their car keys accessible on their wheel wells. Criminals have taken advantage of this practice by locating the hidden car keys and using them to steal victims' cars as well as their cell phones, wallets, and purses. Surfers and other beachgoers are advised to stop this practice to avoid further crimes.

Several of the thefts have resulted in credit cards being stolen by the suspects. Based on surveillance footage retrieved, images of one potential suspect have been gathered.

What's up,
kidz?

My 17" lap~top screen is wiiiide open,
for a few more minutes right now...
i'm almost 60, in 2+1/2 yearz,
i am 1 of them 'old guys' which some sticker sayz 'rule', now,
hahahahaha!

But i ain't no Grandpa.
esh, that 'Casa' dude whom erBB's a lot here,
recently wrote that i preach it, like some~one named in The Bible,
reminded me of that 'bull~frog' song 'bout a dude named jeremiah,
mentioned in an old '60's song, if ya wanna listenin':

If i seem to be preachin' it'z just that 17" lap~top screen screamin',
beggin' for more, you boyz would do so too, if ya stopped typin' 1~liners on your cellie~phones,
hahaha!

That all said,
i dig loggin' into the online cloud,
thee cloud that is Thee erBB! You too?
i've alwayz liked duck~divin' cloudz, under~water!
especially with my eyes open still, under~water, dodgin' explosions,
also, hearin' thee jingle/janglez of my ear~ringz that my Mom had pierced,
as she's long gone now , since '94, some 25 yearz ago, so makes it so much more special
when i go under thee cloudz of white~water, i'm still feelin' good, still, b4 i die!

Same good feelz here,
on Thee erBB, for Surfer Mag rulez!!!

There was a car theft around 10:30 to 11:15 at a beach parking lot in L.A. a coupla Sundayz ago,
i believe i saw who was gonna do it, asked a few of thee boyz to help watch 'em,
but we can not watch, allll day as 'they' loiter...

Below is an LAPD interview, from 2019, have a read...
PLEASE, Please, please learn from it, do not be a victim, help us whom like to ride waves,
whom enjoy the beach, by spreadin' the word, like i do every do, even though i'm puttin' my life in a lil' bitta danger,
for 'they' watch me, {a part of Thee UnderGround Neighborhood Watch} too, hahaha:

Not-so-hidden keys easy target for PCH thieves

What'z up,
it's 5:55 pm on a Saturday,
thee sun has gone down now,
'twas simply a beautiful L.A. sunset after~glow,
a few dayz before we get into the year 2020!!!

Speakin' of dayz,
they oughta be gettin' longer again,
tomorrow, tomorrow, + tomorrow,
yow~za!
***********************************

Earlier this month,
i, {a sh*ty surf~photog walkin' around with~out my Canon over my shoulder},
had to ask a bro, MJ, a cat whom helpz me watch thee beach i hang at {to look for GWS'},
seen here layin'~it back @ thee Bone~Yardz, recently!:
AK1J0185~ST.JPG
to HELP ME, help me out, as i wanted a coupla quick~pix, of some-thin' i watched happen
check 'em out, MJ's cell`phone pix, down below...
F**K!

We clowned, hard, thee dude that did this,
but he still left 'em there, he seemed a bit nervous of me, more so instead of those pch thieves,
we watched as he paddled out, we watched him ride, dude knows how to ride a sloopy~right~hander,
i hung out though, kinda baby~sat that f**k-headz car for quite awhile, so he did not get ripped off,
for from what i have seen, thee thieves seem to wanna get you, right after you paddle out, they've apparently learned by watchin' you that your back is turned onto them, so you ain't gonna see them open your driver side door, yada~yada~yada, and, they do not know when you might be comin' back in...

20191202_095729.jpg
+
20191202_095724.jpg

DO NOT DO THIS!
okie~dokie???

i thank you,
{we do too, thee UnderGround Neighbor~Hood Watch}
+ i'm sure, so Thee LAPD Boyz too!

As will your wife/girl~ie friend,
husband/boy~friend, or other friendz+family
who will have to help you get back home + then deal with your cellphone prob's bein' stolen, your wallet or purse gone, other personal stuff too you'll miss, thee fact that your credit/debit cards are bein' used, they, the thieves,
also prob's have your house key, + { you might now have identity theft issues too.}
all because ya wanted to ride a wave, or 2, or 20...

come on, help out, spread thee word!
sincerely,
randy

Most of the time I bicycle to surf but one trick I've used in the past with the car is to hide the keys in the car and lock the doors but leave one random door unlocked. I figure someone would have to be real desperate or lucky to either try all the doors and hatch or simply luck into the one random door left unlocked. Usually there is nothing valuable in the car anyway. Most times I leave my wallet at the house and just bring my drivers license and the car key.

My last two vehicles have been Fords that have the keypad to unlock the door. That is a game changer for surfing.

Depends where you are. Here in the islands there are few if any people around and you leave your vehicle at the end of some bush track, often where you cannot see it From the lineup. Do not lock the vehicle! It’s easy for someone to smash a window and they will assume that there is something valuable in it if locked. I have made the mistake before but leave it open always now.
In Oz at more crowded locations the lock box is king. No one is going to smash a mini safe with dozens of other surfers around.
