That's your hostile interpretation .

let's discuss what is claimed about spiral vee .
Not being hostile, just teasing you, Greg!

Thanks for your alternative explanation!
Yeah, makes sense

The best way to see the difference between spiral and double concave is with your own eyes  I have a CI robber that has spiral and my superbuzz has some serious double so if I check out both tails looking up to the nose. Different shapes and all but both pretty extreme in the concaves :wave2:

Have been confused about this for a long time, but I think I am starting to grasp it thanks to Greg's description. Let me see if I understand correctly:
Vee: A convex board bottom feature where the stringer is the lowest point of the board, below the rails
Spiral Vee: A convex board bottom feature. The convex portion getting narrower toward the tail.
Single Concave: A concave board bottom feature. The concave being deepest/centered at the stringer
Double Concave: A concave board bottom feature, two concaves deepest on either side of the stringer
Channels: Easily identify-able concave board features which direct water towards the tail (in a straight line usually).

I think I understand in a general sense that concave provides lift and that Vee provides a tipping point that helps to turn a wider board, but any elaboration on these features would be appreciated. For example: how does a single concave feel different from a double? Does Spiral Vee get narrower towards the tail because the board is getting narrower simultaneously? What is idea behind Sprial Vee? Boards with multiple bottom features (single to double, double inside single, etc)? Going to re-read the suggested course material.

Where is this hate ?

Seems most like this interview .
Not in this thread, but in other threads or what I hear from other shapers, industry guys, surfers. Just seems like a general dislike towards his boards.
Hooray for jealousy!

This makes me really have a very bad attitude towards people in general, and these new lumbersurfers in particular.
This is the only one there with a sense og humor.

Is that guy related to UBB?

I've been seeing some of these bearded hipster lumberjacks lately at my local...they pretty much can't surf. I was tempted to ask one of them if the beard was included with their log as a package deal.

I am speaking of bottom facing up

you must be referring to bottom facing down
yep bottom down (as it normally would be ridden)

what would you call that situ. i've been calling it a spiral v, and most modern day shapers refer to that as spiral v, be it correct historically or not.

Every day I shape with the bottom up :smile2:

Your choice .

I make boards today and way back in yesterday and is why I know the roots and actual meaning of Spiral Vee .
in that logic greg, a "down rail" would have a higher rail apex than a 50-50 :helmet: … but semantics aside, i'm just wondering what you would call the bottom shape i referred to?

I would call a raised vee with concave sides a double concave .

I have never called a concaved tail Spiral since it does not fit that term and its original use.

Terry Fitzgerald was first I heard calling double concave a Spiral Vee changing the use of this term from its origin .

My Pavel 5 fin (Ponzer) has spiral vee now that I know what it is! Wide shallow vee ahead of the fins spiraling down to two narrow vee panels at the fins with concaves scooped in. Good for da tube.

Could just be vee to double concave vee?

I don't get all the people who hate on him with the argument that he's not doing anything new. No sh*t, nobody is doing anything new, but he's combining some things that haven't been combined before. He's also marketing it well, by ripping on them.

Only two things make money: marketing and innovation.

Like the concept of the show and the host. And the gratitude shared by shaper and host. Did they both wear raglans on purpose?
When did someone make up a new name for baseball shirts and why?
100% this thread is now debunked.
