I called the Subaru dealer and got a quote:
414.95 - windshield
$95 - molding
"Rough" total for parts, labor/installation including calibration of the cameras - about $1300 out the door (so ~$700 labor)
So Scotty was off by at least a grand. A Tacoma is just over $100 for an aftermarket windshield installed.

If Tesla tones down the cybertruck styling, as I expect they will, they will indeed slaughter GM with a $50k truck. Key will be payload. EVs already have a hard time with hills/HVAC/heated seats etc. I know that all the profits are in the pickup segment, but it's just not yet the place for full BEV. Maybe in the next product cycle.

Ideally you'd have a half-ton pickup (Taco size) with a small turbo 4 cylinder with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain and maybe electric rear axles for awd. That way you could drive in full EV mode around the suburbs/commute/grocery store but you'd still have ICE power to haul stuff and take longer trips. F150/Silverado size PUs still need a diesel for torque/efficiency/towing/range

Thanks, his range was 900-1400 so he sounds spot on. Last truck was 100% stock and I gotta say I enjoy the technology of the new one and it makes it "fun" to drive. If I you're driving off road or on a long road trip you just as easily disable the cameras with about 2 button clicks in the center console, or just put tape over them and it will automatically turn off. That guy is a little whacky but he's entertaining :monkey:
To mix it with that thread about people p1ssing in bottles while driving, you could put it on cruise control, enable auto lane detect, and take a regular p1ss in the bottle and the car would steer itself along the highway while you hold your D in one hand and the bottle in the other.

I predict they are gonna be a short-term success and a long-term flop. The "must have" people are gonna get one but in general the high-end truck market is already way oversaturated, whereas demand for small and cheap trucks is red-hot.

It looks like a homemade Deloreon body kit on a tundra. Like those really shitty Lamborghini body kits for Pontiac Fieros.

saw one in person a few weeks ago and thought it looks really janky. Had to stare at it to see if it was real, looked homemade, like it was made out of material you'd buy at home depot to build a shed or something.
