This shows net profit margins from 2010-2022 on the 3rd graph down. A google search shows the big oil companies to be in the high teens in terms of margins. While certainly high, considering they were negative during the pandemic, this doesn't seem unreasonable given that they had 4 negative quarters and several that were in the 2-3% range.

18% doesn't account for gas being double the cost in California has it is elsewhere. That's policy.
