That Finals Day crap is just awful. If anything, a final should be held at big Pipe or Teahupoo. I think Filipe is probably the best performance surfer by a longshot, but a world title for someone who isn't even top 100 in any wave of consequence is just... nope.
The format is all fcked too...Italo had to surf like 6 heats in one day, I think it would have been 7 to win

However, I understand the rationale. Anybody remember the Black Pearl contest at Teahupo'o? Conan should have won with two 10s and a 7 (one should have been an 11). Koby had two 9's and a 9.1 and won. Gotta leave space.

JJF's wave was mind blowing. I love that the cameraman, the commentators, and everyone gave up on him... and then he pops out down the line. THAT is the definition of a 10.
JJ underscored on both of those crazy waves, that first tube an absolute Houdini. Whatever he's riding must have a teleporter built in. Be interesting to know what country the judges that didn't give him 10's were from.
