My in-laws' garden in MT. Lots of critters to contend with so it's caged in to keep the deer out, but also has chicken wire under the raised boxes to keep gophers out.

Marigolds are the ticket for bringing the bees in. I forget which of the pest insects they also repel. Always plant Marigolds in and around the garden. Finally at a point where we can start gearing up for a late summer early fall garden.
Sweet, thanks for the info. :shaka:

Are those Marigolds mixed in there?
Yes, they are a good natural pest control/repellent. The limonene in marigolds deters whitefly, and their roots also secrete alpha-terthienyl, a chemical that inhibits the development of nematode eggs. The flowers also act as a decoy to attract slugs & snails away from your veggies. Basil and Nasturtium are also good for repelling whitefly.

Greens, greens, and more greens. Lettuce, chard and beet greens washed and ready to eat.

Beets quartered ready to roast.

A couple of zucc's and a bunch of basil.

We made a big batch of basil/nasturtium pesto. Then we freeze it in big cubes so we can thaw them out for use as needed.

Left home for a week and had a nice haul of cukes, eggplant, and beans.

Backyard Bosc doing well despite the rain rotting 3/4 the blossoms....fewer pears = bigger pears?

Espalier ruby fig doing well in its 2nd year. Maybe a fruit next year? Against the fence for extra heat in cool SF clime.

Two more apples this year than last on the columnar apple tree (a mutant from the McIntosh line). It is now about 5 feet tall. Supposed to get 8-10 ft tall. A tasty green apple that makes an ok pie if picked at the right time. Better for fresh eating but shelf life isn't super, so pick and eat in a few days.

Background tomato is of the "grape" variety and is 8 ft tall. (Foreground plant in 15 gal pot is 7 ft tall.) Wrapping baby tomatoes in spring helps offset chilling spring winds, now need heat to ripen the fruits.
