They can't do it now - everyone would be race/gender/species-swapped and Aubrey would be a diverse girlboss posing with an angry face all the time.

Crowe is also too old. It's a shame they never made more of those movies. The books are amazing. We might have to start reading books again.
The books really are dank. With cgi they could make RC younger and cook up some epic sea battles bc filming on water/practical effects like in the first one is wicked expensive. We’re lucky they even made the first one.

Master and Commander also makes me think of this movie, Thor vs Whale. It was pretty tight

they could re-cast! the ships and sails and cannon fire and funny accents and latent homosexuality are the real stars!

Re: [Too Old to Die Young]

While slow pacing gets a little tiresome for sure, I also fully enjoyed the cinematography. That said a lot of the artsy shots run too long.

congrats on making it this far bro. If you can make it through episode 5 you’re home free lol. It gets weirder but I don’t remember anything as fucked up as ep 5

for me I’ve always enjoyed directors willing to work outside the box, use non linear narrative, etc. They’re few and far between so you take what you can get and TOTDY has a dank vibe along with some sweet ultraviolence coupled with a cool plot, interesting characters and was ultimately a thought provoking and enjoyable experience.
Finished this last night. Really needs a second season, I think. Would like to see what happens when Diana and Yaritza [might] cross paths. Neat trick by Refn though.

Ferrari was good. Saw it in a theater. Director Michael Mann is 80 now, he has raced motorcycles and some cars - he was involved in Miami Vice which explains some of the exotic cars they drove around in that show. He's been trying to do Ferrari for over 20 years. Spent 95 million or so. No CGI - they used models for maybe a couple of shots where a car flew in the air but all the on road stuff is 100% real.
Cameras mounted to the cars without extensive vibration dampening so you get the bumpy feel like your in the car behind. Filmed I would say like Steve Mqueen's LeMans or Bullit where Steve, who was also a racer, was trying to make it feel real like you were in the car. The action stuff is great.

It covers Enzo Ferrari's life story from 1948 or so until the 1,000 mile Mille Miglia race in Italy in 1957 and a few years beyond. A fascinating life and explosive personal life. Penelope Cruz - Jesus what a hot looking hot headed Italian wife she plays!

Here's a trailer - there's lots of "Making Of" stuff on YouTube as well - all very worth watching. they constructed 9 or so replica cars to race - since there were no physical examples in some cases they used an old model and multiplied all the dimensions. All that stuff was hand built in Italy - hand hammered aluminum for some, hand laid fiberglass for others.

I watched The Platform (movie not series) on Netflix the other day and while the movie is admittedly disturbing to watch, it was a good experiment on social interaction.

It takes place in a prison built on a vertical shaft of unkown floors. The top floor occupants are treated to a platform of gourmet dishes and they can eat all they want before the platform lowers to next level. There are two people per level yet there is no way for them to know how many levels are below them. The prisoners remain on their level for 30 days and then are moved to random levels up/down the shaft. The lower the level, the less amount of food is left to eat. The top level begins with enough food to feed everyone but, only if people ration their shares. Of course, they don't so the people below either starve to death, commit suicide or resort to cannibalism. Remember that the prisoners are moved at random every 30 days. Someone at level 125 could find themselves at level 3 on the next turn. They just need to survive to the end of their sentence to be freed and in some cases receive a reward. Sentences last 6 months to a year.

Of course, there is so much more involved between the characters. The movie is Spanish and if you have a basic understanding of the language, I'd recommend watching it in it's original language. Just add the subtitles for those hard to understand words and phrases. You may even learn some cool new words. I had no idea that the word snail is coracol in spanish. Never had an occasion to use it.

Killers of the Flower Moon... good"ish" but not for everyone. And it took me 3 seatings, that always tells me the movie isn't that great (if it was I would have devoured it in one go).

That episode 5 intro was hard to stomach through... very heavy, even if it's not graphic at all... those dialogues are gnarly and get under your skin.

I finished watching the whole thing a couple days ago. I really liked it but god dammit this is not for everyone... I don't think I could recommend it to anyone to be honest. Watch at your own peril type of thing. But good. very good.

They say things are open to interpretation... well...

No real cliffhanger but no real closure either... not even close. and that's ok. I dug it. Where do I get my prize money?!

I really want to watch Drive again but it doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere anymore. That was a good watch.

I also watched both Sicario and Sicario Day of the Soldado yesterday. The first one is so much better than the second, which was not bad but fell apart at the seams towards the end... they kinda lost it.

Watched "Society of the Snow" (Sociedad de la Nieve) last night on Netflix. Absolutely recommend it! Crazy to think that actually happened. Really good movie, go and watch it when you can.

Insane story and great movie . More authentic version of “Alive” which was the American version. Alive left out the goat herder who they saw on the other side of the river. Had it not been for him they could’ve been stuck because the river was so treacherous. Glad this version included that, along with diving deeper into the psychological aspects of the story.

Hot Fuzz - from the people who did Shaun Of The Dead. It's OK - a madcap comedy I guess - worth $3.99. I saw it this weekend. Set inland in England I mention it because it surprisingly has a number of Point Break references in it culminating with an English cop doing a Johnny Utah shooting his whole clip into the air so as not to have to shoot his buddy.
