alchohol, caffeine and sugar not physically addictive? couldve fooled me.
I thought it said alcohol and caffeine were but sugar wasn't?

I can't smell any of this other stuff from hundreds of yards away. It generally doesn't make me gag, bother my sinuses, or make my eyes water.

So far I think FecalFace is correct about sugar and the FDA's purpose, everyone else is correct about alcohol and caffeine.

I am def physically addicted to coffee, and sugar (never done together.). There is a noticeable difference in my day w/o either.

Caffeine I wasn't doubting at all. Sugar sounds like there is debate over it??

I'd like if someone who knows these kind of things could weigh in on this one. Is this going to create a black market for menthols, or will the existing menthol consumers switch to something else, and lack of minty flavor will result in fewer people taking up the habit?

Right because it would totally impossible to buy menthols in Mexico or on an Indian reservation or the internet and sell them to costumers illegally on the street where police would enforce the law JUST LIKE THEY DO WITH people selling loosies in NYC.

You’re a moron. Number one, cops shouldn’t be enforcing loosie sales that led to Garner’s death. Number two, a ban would be on the manufacture and sales of Menthol cigarettes. I don’t think it would immediately make possession of them illegal. I’m sure plenty of those who prefer menthols will run out and scoop up cases while they’re still legal and thats their right.

What's the point of having a law if you don't enforce it? That's dumb. What if they crossed borders to get them or produced them on the sly?

No, my parents both smoked and I can't stand it. My mom managed to quit and said it was fkn gnarly, crazy dreams and sh!t....

It appears to be killing my Dad faster than the alcohol.

What I want is someone who would know about this to weigh in on it. Is whatever the f--k the difference between a menthol and a non-menthol enough to warrant a black market for them? Or will they just switch to non-menthol??????

Then you arrest the people illegally producing and trafficking the banned cigarettes.

Cuban cigars have been illegal in the United States since the embargo. When have they ever enforced possession? If anything all they care about is the trafficking and resale of them. I brought some back in my travels. If customs catches you with a small amount thats for personal use they typically just confiscate and take them home to their buddies destroy them. But do you really think police are gonna take the time to inspect people’s cigarettes to see if they’re menthol or not?

I used to smoke. Menthols at first and then straight Camel Lights. I’d Say the best comparison for the transition was like going from Light & Sweet coffee to Black Coffee which I also did. It took me about 2wks to get over it and I never looked back.

Cops were enforcing loitering laws. The guy who owns the building Eric Garner loitered in front of had called the cops eleventeen times already. If he found another place where nobody wanted him gone, nobody would have called the cops.

You can't set up impromptu storefronts on sidewalks right in front of places with no loitering signs.

Thanks! I will put you down for "thinks people will just switch" vs "this creates another 10 figure black market for El Chapo".

Put me down for...

-Thinks menthol loyalists will stock up before any ban goes into effect.
-Thinks menthol loyalists who live near the border may cross over and come back with a case or two from time to time just like people do with viagra and pain pills.
-Thinks menthol loyalists who travel will likely return with a carton in their bags just like people do with Cubans.
-Thinks most people will switch to regular cigarettes or vaping as menthols really aren’t worth jumping through hoops for.
-Thinks new smokers won’t get into Menthols
-Doesn’t think police will ever check what kind of cigarette individuals are smoking or even enforce this law if menthol cigarettes are found in your possession while looking for other contraband. That’s just silly people looking for something to be outraged about.
