IMO more high density housing is a good idea in city centers where you can walk to run errands, shop, eat out etc. Many young people who don’t make much money would enjoy having a cheaper shoebox to live in, where they don’t have to worry about driving drunk to get home. As their income improves and they build a family, they can opt to move a few miles out to the suburbs where you can have more space. Many East coast and European cities have that exact design, and are well served by both road and rail service.

That said, even with more high density housing, cars and distance between work and home will likely always be an issue for the vast majority of people.

Oh great let’s make suburbia into shitty 3rd world countries like India. Success is the new discrimination.

My work is everywhere.
Wherever I live I would need to drive/fly.
I don’t work every day and I also work from home.

but majority of people have 9-5 jobs and commute.

nice non sequitur tho.

I don’t live in North Hollywood because surf sucks and cycling sucks. I lived in Culver City for a while and getting to (shitty) surf or trying to ride a bike was a no go.

I have an apartment in a city too.

if I could afford a place In Southern California where I can walk to stores and run errands on my bike, I’d do it tomorrow.
So in other words your lifestyle is much more important to you than your advocacy for urbanisim.

There's nothing wrong with you wanting what you want for yourself, but maybe you should consider dialing down your criticism of the results of everyone else wanting the same for themselves.

As for what's sustainable, there are natural limits to everything, including people's tolerance for commuting time and hassle.

I love your false dichotomy BS.

I didn't say ban cars and single family homes.

You are playing a chick game.

Try finding a "shoebox" in San Diego for under million bucks.

What dichotomy? You're a raging hypocrite. You don't walk the talk. You don't use public transit or bike to work or live in a cellblock but you're happy to tell us that Americans must make these sacrifices or we suck.

Seriously, assimilate or GTFO.

What dichotomy?

Dichotomy of having the choice only between single family homes and cars or bicycles and favela slums. It's dumb AF.
Are those the only choices? Nothing in between?

It's not a matter of "sacrifice" dummy. It's a fact, Southern California will eventually run out of space to put single family homes and extra lanes to accomodate more cars and you will be caught standing there with the dick in your hand, like a dummy that you are.

There are plenty of other places where you can put single family homes, living in an area with 4 million people sharing the same infrastructure and pretending you live in a countryside is beyond delusional.

Your lack of foresight is amazing. In fact, your unwillingness to look into the past planning mistakes and acknowledge them, is even dumber.

Also, I assimilated, you are the one who constantly complains about the gubmint tyranny and how California is ruined.

If we had more housing units, it would be easier. If there was a political climate in California that didn’t make building so prohibitively expensive, we would have more units and cost would go down.

Building more single family homes is definitely not helping.
Lol. More units is always better than less units from an affordability and supply/demand standpoint, whether that’s high rises full of shoeboxes or new single family homes in the sticks.

In terms of traffic and the environment, those are separate issues. Which is why I think multi story smaller units in city centers and single family homes as you move outwards will at least give the best balance of affordability, traffic flow, and catering to the preferences of most people.

Sounding like a regular old regulation lovin boot licker!
Just proves they are all for government when it benefits them directly. They would be all for single payer health care if they got cancer and it stood to bankrupt them. It is the clear difference between the two sides. Trump just passed the family leave act that gives government parents 12 weeks full paid leave. Where is the outcry? Socialism is fine if it is for your side.

You should stop using words you don't understand.

Besides, I already posted a comment in this thread about supporting upzoning, albeit favoring a more focused and logical implementation. So you're wrong when you say I lack foresight or am pretending to live in the back country.

And you are still a raging hypocrite who is saying one thing but living your lifestyle in the opposite manner. Predictable, but dishonest nonetheless. Sell your car, rent a cellblock in the same zip code you work in and walk the talk, and then maybe people might take your traffic sniveling a little more seriously.

I think you think you know what hypocrisy is...
I think you know I know what hypocrisy is but you want to think I think I know what hypocrisy is...

He has chosen to live in a single family home with a yard.
And boy does he love his garden and fruit trees.

All the while preaching about how disgusting single family home culture is.

While he lives the epitome of it.
