My Atheist friend used the Ten Commandments from the Old Testament when raising his kids and teaching them about right and wrong. He's a non-believer but felt they were great rules to live by regardless of where they came from.
Atheism is a relatively new concept as most human cultures worshipped some form of God or another. It was only recently that humans decided to question faith in the existence of God(s).

Yet they've replaced everything "God" did before with a misunderstanding of "Science" today
While hardly a religious scholar, I have read some stuff that links Christianity to non-Abrahamic teachings.
To me, the idea that being excellent to one another is super practical.
I mean, doesn't everyone sleep better at night thinking, "I am excellent to the neighbors, they have no reason to kill me in my bed*." Who needs Buddha, Zoroaster, Rama to tell you this?
* - Also makes sense to have a back-up (a fence, locked door, dog, claw foot bathtub, plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, etc) because some people are jerks who can't see reason.

I identified the pattern I called the "the ingrate response."
When you do someone a favor they can't acknowledge the favor because doing so would be to admit there was an obligation of future reciprocity.
It's funny when I see it.
I think it explains the behavior of my bosses when I do great work.
But there were always atheists.
I think some people are wired to need a god to explain that which can't be explained and to manage the fear of non-existence.
Others, not.
The main requirement to believe in a super natural god is need.

I think they do, average run of the mill people like myself who used to not care about sexuality and have a bit of concern for the environment well remember the a**holery that occurred on social media during the last presidential elections (not to mention the manipulation by the majority of major news outlets). One only has to look at the daily hatred that gets puked out here. Every middle of the road voter like myself is not going back to that cluster f*ck that is on parade daily by the Democratic Party.
