Thomas Sowell calls the hillbillies the original underclass in America, and draws a number of parallels between them and the black experience.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Rednecks_and_White_Liberals

Black Rednecks and White Liberals

The title essay is based on Sowell's thesis about the origins of the "black ghetto" culture.

Sowell argues that the black ghetto culture, which is claimed to be "authentic black culture", is actually a highly dysfunctional white southern redneck culture which existed during the antebellum South. This culture came, in turn, from the "Cracker culture" of the North Britons and Scots-Irish who migrated from the generally lawless border regions of Britain.

Sowell gives a number of examples that he regards as supporting the lineage, e.g.,

an aversion to work, proneness to violence, neglect of education, sexual promiscuity, improvidence, drunkenness, lack of entrepreneurship,… and a style of religious oratory marked by strident rhetoric, unbridled emotions, and flamboyant imagery.[1]

Haven't you learned anything here?

Not all people are dumb. Just the ones in the flyover states.

If they were smart, they'd leave.
Lots of people in those states didn't vote for trump.

I wonder if there is less exposure to psychopaths in those states, and people are less resistant to the con?

Kind of like American indians when the european brought of small pox?

Basically that is the issue.

They fell of the psychopaths charms.

I did too as a young man but you get older and learn, one hopes.

Psychopaths are fun and can be generous but you don't want them captaining the ship.

Didn't any of these dummies read Moby Dick?

Going back to the discussion that "blacks" are really just "poor" and that our entire focus on "them" and "those people" is misplaced.

And on the topic, the fact that there are some white people who are disadvantaged doesn't negate disadvantage faced by others.

In terms of assimilation in a metro culture, those people would have some work to do if they wanted to enjoy all the benefits of herd membership. They'd have to change their manner of speech and dress and conduct and sell out a lot of what they consider their individuality.

Simply "being here and paying taxes" for the last 300 years hasn't bridged that gap for them, and it never will.

If they don't sell out they're going to attract a lot of attention, they will feel like outsiders at all times and they will get stinkeye for being different.

Conversely, if a hip urbanite moves into hillbillytown that person won't be functioning as well in their environment unless they sell out some of the cultural attributes they hold.

You can say that the normies are obliged to ignore the individuality of the hillbillies and the hillbillies are obliged to ignore the individuality of the hipster, but that's not how people act anywhere in the world.

1). Spellcheck your signature
2). What the f**k does that even mean?
Go read Popovich's quote in context. OTdos (I think) posted it in another thread here somewhere...

The great scholar Greg Popovich!!!!

We do have a clue what being born white means; it means that your ancestors were from Europe and the Mediterranean. And it means nothing else except to racists like OT and Popvich who insist on defining everything on 19th Century terms rather than judging the individual.

Judging the individual? Like we do Arabs and Muslims? Or in your case, women?

Absolutely I judge them individually.

But its also ignorant to not look at statistical trends when trying to protect your citizens against the mess your MIC has created in an area of the world where people of a certain demographic originate from.

So in other words, you don't judge them individually. You have pretty strong opinions on Muslims - how many do you actually know?

What he has is a grasp of the numbers attributable to the group itself, which is what he's referring to.

There is no conflict between judging an individual as an individual and judging a group as a group. The only way that wire gets crossed is if you arbitrarily assume every individual has the group identity.

LOL. We've had this discussion before. The numbers in America don't support the fear.

I think you fully understand that he's not limiting his usage of the numbers to America - or to (only) murders. Nobody should. America isn't the primary variable, so that's why it doesn't make sense to use it as the primary filter.
