Wish I could go back. I loved it there. I got better surf in Portugal though. I recommend it for your next trip.
Yeah Portugal is on the short list. I was actually originally planning on there but changed last second.

My son lived in San Sebastian for five months a couple of years ago.
The ten days I spent there visiting him were some of the most relaxing and enjoyable days of my life.
Food, wine, etc., is epic and cheap. Reasonably priced, but nice hotels can easily be found. People are helpful and friendly; women are nice looking and classy. You can do it all there--surf, hike, cycle. Fantastic place.
My fiance went earlier this year and speaks 0 Portuguese and basically no Spanish, no problem. She said almost everyone spoke English.
Back in the Napoleonic wars the name of that coast was "Costa del Muerte". The Coast of Death. If you were in a square rigged sailing ship and got caught inshore there by a heavy onshore gale there was no place to escape to.
