Maybe you can just treat the seizures w meds, instead of trying to find the root cause for them. You could pay for the MRI, and they could tell you, "yep, you're dog's epileptic. Here are the meds."Love this thread.
Got a question for everyone about mild epilepsy.
My buddy Coho had a couple of seizures, one on the 2nd and another on the 11th, nothing since.
We took him to the vet after his first after totally freaking us out. Fortunately, both only lasted 1 minute or less.
The vet told us it is not entirely uncommon, especially with his breed (herding).
He is in A-1 excellent health and shape.
The vet referred us to a specialist down in Ventura for a possible MRI (starting at $4000) because he couldn't find anything causing the seizures.
Anyone have similar experiences?
That's what we ended up doing.Maybe you can just treat the seizures w meds, instead of trying to find the root cause for them. You could pay for the MRI, and they could tell you, "yep, you're dog's epileptic. Here are the meds."
Reunited! And it feels so good.Update.
Got home about an hour ago and took my dog and our lil house guest out for a walk and ran into our neighbor two doors down who ID’d the old lady. He knew her name that matched her tags. Says there’s an old guy who she follows around who lives in a building a few blocks away but didn’t know the unit. It’s too late to knock on doors tonight but I’m excited to go knocking on doors in that building looking for Robert first thing in the morning. Fingers crossed we can reunite them and make that guys day.
Good on you!Reunited! And it feels so good.
Her owner was an old single retiree on a fixed income in section 8 housing a couple blocks over. He said he gave up hope and threw out her bed this morning. He started crying and said he had nothing to give me for a reward. I told him his smile was a reward money can’t buy and I’m just happy to do what I hope others would do for my dog.
I got his current number so I’m going to go over to petsmart and get her a new collar with new tags and his current number on it. He told me the number on her tag is 8yrs old. I’ll bring it over tomorrow with one of Pickles old beds for her. Then I’m gonna offer to take him to get her chip scanned again and help him properly register it.
Maybe I should look into long haul pet transport as my new career now that I’m being replaced by AI?Last leg of their journey. Fantastic service really. Text and photo updates 3x per day (they’re in Kansas now and plans to make Denver later this evening)
the dogs seem to be taking it all way better than I expected

I don’t think that my GF would approve. This guy seemed happy with his career. He’s his own boss. Has a partner. He said it’s like being paid to be a traveling retiree lol. With dogs. you gotta love long haul driving of course. But you get to roam around the country and hang out with dogs and get paid. He does about 12 hours a day.
Does a lot of rescue transport. Breeder transport. He said it’s fun picking up a litter of puppies then literally delivering them one by one around the country. Like being Santa Claus.
For every sorry schmuck like me sending off his pets in a divorce think of all of the joy every time he delivers a rescue or a puppy to their new family.
I had unofficial visitation rights with an ex’s dog a ways back. The dog was 100% hers. Parents gifted it to her right when we got together but I did all the work walking it and potty training it and bonded with it as a pack leader. When we broke up she was decent enough to let me take him for weeks at a time. And he helped me rebound getting me laid a lot. I was never one to be a pick up artist but man was he an ace in the hole at the uppity dog parks. It was like fish in a barrel with him. Over time the visits got less and less. Then she got married and moved to Brooklyn. I didn’t think it was right once she had a husband so I let it go and never saw him again. About theee years ago I was in the middle of a bad fight with my current gf when the ex called. I didn’t answer but she left a message because she thought I should know her dog died. I was pretty broken up about it and felt like I’d abandoned him. Didn’t have it in me to call her back. Still kinda regret it.
but as special a place as all the dogs from my past hold in my heart there’s always room to love the next dog more. @Subway someday when you’re ready a new dog will win your love and be your best friend.
The ex I was talking about was a psychopath.I did the "let me see the dog" thing twice with my ex. One was while we were still sort of parting ways, the other was shortly after. She was the best dog I ever had, and I still get sentimental when I see one like her (pretty rare), but losing the dog was totally worth it.
Yeah it would take a special sort of relationship for that lifestyle lolI don’t think that my GF would approve.
If I was gonna ask to do that, might as well ask to go be a ski instructor or lifty for the winter. Neither would fly.Yeah it would take a special sort of relationship for that lifestyle lol
