We went to the Academy Museum yesterday. Well worth it, if you like film makng. Plan to spend at least four hours. We went in the afternoon and didn't have time to see the fourth floor exhibition.
Afterwards we went to have dinner on the Sunset Strip. It reminded me of the time I was at a restaurant there and saw Jeff Goldblum get up and play the piano (dude is really tall). I was sitting on a bench which lined one whole wall. At a certain point the people at the table next to me asked if I could slide over a bit so another guest could sit on the bench. After the guest slid in, someone in my party whispered to me, "You're sitting next to Robert Altman." Hollywood.
However in my opinion my most noteworthy celebrity sighting was once in the check in line at LAX. I was going to Italy via Frankfurt. I'm in a long line and notice the silhouette of someone with surfboards just outside the sliding glass doors of the terminal and was thinking "Lucky sh!t." Then in walks Kelly Slater. No entourage, just by himself. He goes over to an empty counter to check in (I looked later and he was going to Tahiti). Then he came over to a baggage deposit area near my line with his boards. I told the guys next to me, "That's Kelly Slater." They looked at me with an expression that said, "Who?" I added, "Nine(?) times world surfing champion." They just shrugged. I don't normally hound celebrities but this was Kelly. So I asked the disinterested Germans to save my place in line and went to get an autograph. I had the book, "All for a Few Perfect Waves" (about Miki Dora) with me for the flight so I asked him to sign it and he told me a story about meeting him. He was very cordial. Believe it or not I asked him if he'd ever heard of Greg Griffin or had tried his five fin boards. He said, "No." I wished him success and he went off to win his next world title.
