Believe it or not that pad is at optimum placement for that board, unless you’re over 7 feet tall.

HPSB shapes (squash tail thrusters) are best suited to be ridden at roughly your height, give or take a few inches depending on the design and width of rider‘s stance. One foot needs to be on or a little behind the fins and the other needs to be roughly in the middle. Move up a little for going straight/trimming.
That board being a HPSB design should be ridden that way. Unfortunately someone who is 6 feet tall can’t do anything other than stand forward and trim. Get on the tail and you’ll stall out unless you have a REALLY wide stance.
It‘s one of my axes ive been grinding against surfboard makers for a long time. They simply should not be selling people boards like this (unless the buyer is super tall).
I once talked an adult learner out of buying an oversized Fred Rubble right in front of the shop guy trying to sell it to him. He bought a M13 instead.
A friend of mine is 6’8 and a lean 260 pounds. He rides custom HPSBs that are 6’8 - 6’10 x 20something and about 3 inches thick. From afar with nobody else around for scale this all looks normal. Then you stand next to him….
