Do you think most foreigners are even aware of this? (if the bastardization is even true...)
I don't know. American Football is basically a slight variation of rugby, except the downfield pass makes it more exciting IMO. It probably should've never been called football, but it is what it is.

Meanwhile, soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Probably because the barrier to entry is very low, and also because of cultural conditioning.

The stop and go "plays" aspect is perhaps the most unappealing part of the game.

Like sitting in traffic.

"We're finally moving!" ...and stop again. Repeat. For four hours.
I agree. You and the guy in the article are not wrong in that respect. Which the networks take full advantage of in order to drag the game out and milk advertising revenue to the fullest. Although I've also tried watching football games on youtube where they condense an entire game into 20-30 minutes. It's almost too much to absorb. It would be like trying to learn Chemistry by reading the Clif Notes. The context and build up are part of the game, whether you like it or not. But yeah, I agree that it could be tightened up a bit. MLB is light years worse in that regard.

Either way, most people will automatically be biased in favor of whatever the most popular sport in their country is. They will find that more entertaining, despite its flaws and boring aspects. A soccer/football game where you watch the ball get kicked down the field and back that results in a 0-0 final score doesn't sound that appealing to me either, but I can still enjoy watching a World Cup game. Someone who watches soccer religiously will find a way to appreciate the non-scoring aspects of the game in ways that I wouldn't pick up on, and vice versa with American Football.

Plus, like I said, American football is like 3d chess in the way that every player has role to play, and the complexity of offensive actions that exist. No other sport compares in that respect.

I’m mocking the inevitable right wing outrage. Christian moms will be outraged at the sexuality. And it def wasn’t Vanilla enough for the fox and friends crowd. And that Puerto Rican flag will inflame potus like a bad hemorrhoid. Which makes it the best halftime show since Prince.
I know you are, and I agree with you.

Yeah, how dare they mock a sport which has 'foot' and 'ball' in its name but has nothing to do with feet or balls.
Which I pointed out in the first paragraph of my next post: "Most of that stems from them being butthurt that we bastardized the 2 sports, turned them into 1, and stole the name."

EDIT: I also said "It probably should've never been called football, but it is what it is."

Reading comprehension. Learn it.

Also, probably some lingering butthurt over the revolutionary war. #murka

You've mistaken me for someone else.

I don't care for sports or nationalism.

They didn't bastardize anything, they just named it after two things that have nothing to do with the game.

Should have been called "hand prolate spheroid" or "latent homosex testosterone supplement".

No, I haven't. You suck at reading comprehension. I addressed the fact that the name "football" was probably not appropriate in 2 posts before you chimed in.

I don't care for sports or nationalism.
Then why are you here?

So friggin what? Of course the Brits are going to look down their nose at everything one of their former colonies does.

Can someone tell me why the 49ers decided to NOT call time out with the Chiefs getting ready to punt with 1:30ish left in the half? I'm not a fan of either team but I just kinda figure if you are in the Super Bowl it might be a good idea to try and score points given the time and opportunity. Given the "no time out" decision... why didn't they just kneel out the half? I'm stumped.
And then they played slow down offense just because they had the lead....:cursing:

This is why I don't watch pro sports. The Dodgers two years in a row and now this. Better not to be emotionally invested in a sports team.

I’m not a football fan. Wife is. Before I retired, one of our clients, DTV invited my wife and me to three Super Bowls, Tampa, Miami and Dallas. I could care less about the game but actually loved the NFL ‘tail gate‘ party before the game, first class show (John Legend, Steve Winwood, Journey, playing during our lunch, Zoo animal handlers with everything from snakes to llamas. People watching was the best, wives cornered Opie for photo ops (he was very cool and friendly). The games? I don’t remember or care who played. Was nice to have police escorts to and from the stadiums. Now that AT&T has nearly ruined DTV, I found it almost humorous to read during the game that there were significant outages for AT&T customers who lost their Super Bowl signal. I would guess AT&T will sell DTV this year.

Because Garoppolo looked like he was about to stroke out and they have the best defense in the league and were getting the ball back after the half? Other than the running plays on that one drive in the 2nd quarter SF offense looked like dogshit in the first half.

The Jimmy G can't throw meme is a bit much but he's not a star QB the way most of the other playoff teams have star QBs.

Many 2-minute drill routes are out routes. When the defense knows they're coming, which they do in the 2 minute drill, they are very, very, very prone to getting jumped. With the defense able to play cover 2, everyone underneath assumes they have help over the top. Jimmy G is a good QB but he's not a Terminator with a hand cannon that leaves dead bodies in its wake.

Even with the timeouts, okay, the middle of the field is open. Also a very risky place to throw the ball if your QB isn't having a good half, which Jimmy G wasn't.

Note, a fair few of his passing yards were on those 'push pass' plays to Deebo. It counts as a pass but it's basically a handoff/toss jet sweep but the ball travels a foot forward in the air so if they f--k up it's a dead ball and not a fumble. Take those out of his 1st half stats and watch them tumble.

Once they weren't backed up in their own end they threw it over the top. Jimmy G managed to not overthrow the receiver but he obviously pushed off and got called.

I couldn't read the telegraph article but, even the first bit...

It's brutal....
Sports is basically war without the army's champions dying in the single combat, or the seiges, or the disease, or...

I'd like it if soccer players, aka Odell Beckham Jr., took their tattoos and their wristwatches and their flagrant dyed hair and f-----d right off. Go be a pop star playing futbol in Europe. Go.

International soccer, that's either brutal because a shitty team is trying to stomp the ankle of a guy who makes more than their country's GDP, or that same guy, every time someone touches him, he goes flying and crying.

Pro soccer, what garbage. Most of the European leagues suck. Let me tell you what is going to happen:

Madrid or Barcelona wins La Liga
PSG wins France's league
Bayern, Dortmund, or like 1-2 other clubs wins Bundesliga
Juventus or 1-2 other clubs wins Italy's League
City/Utd/Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal win EPL.
CSKA or Zenit wins Russia
The Budapest team with the purple smoke grenades wins Hungary's league
etc.

So um nobody else noticed that J Lo did her some of her routine on a stripper pole during the halftime. I guess I was the only one nevermind.
