I rode that trail a lot a couple years ago. Drugs and alcohol are responsible for those tent cities. You see a lot of shattered people all up and down that trail.

Didn't you notice that there were no immigrants in that video? They were all at work.

I think drugs and alcohol is the end result but at the heart of the problem is the fact that we live in a society that just doesn’t give a fvck about the destitute, poor, mental illness or access to health care.

There’s no real safety net for this not to happen or a way out when it does happen for these people.

Blaming people for using, being poor or ill, is the way the right wants to deal with it.

Something like 75% of the homeless are mentally ill. Mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction go hand in hand.

You need to treat the mental illness before you treat the addiction. But many people, for various reasons, do not want treatment for mental illness.

This is why we need the return of state mental hospitals.
