Patterson's Italo IF-15 is even easier than a Ghost. When I was emailing with Timmy he said guys in their 50's are ripping on IF-15's. He said he's never had a board that's designed for a CT guy but that so many regular joes have been ordering and loving.
If it enables lesser surfers it will take pros to an even higher level - rather than only Pros can ride it

You've all been fooled by the industry marketing

Easier for you makes it even easier for the pro

Yup. Every time I see someone comment or ask, "How does Italo get so much pop?" I'm like, go get an IF-15. Not that it will give you that pop, but it has effortless speed built in. That's why it looks like he barely pumps and then launches six foot high airs.

took me a little bit more time to figure out rocker curve of Ghost. It definitely wants to surf a certain way. Feels completely natural to me.
See I heard that too before buying but for me the ghost is as easy to ride as anything else. Different strokes I guess.

Has anyone reviewed or care to share thoughts on their alternative tail ghost in pitching beachbreaks (im ordering for east coast winter and hurricane swells).

I really like my non-alternative tail Ghost in pitching beachbreak. The only thing I'd do is widen it a bit to give it a little more range but I wouldn't change the shape. I really like round pins on everything, especially in pitching beach break.

I like them too for straight lines- I've never been able to properly cutback on a rounded pin. Maybe I just need to get a shorter one or a longer stance

I'm going to get a Ghost and am in between sizes in my head. I'm 6’ and 166ish (but could easily get back to 175 if I decide to touch a weight again in a gym). My DD is a CI NB2 5'9 x 19 1/2" x 2 3/8" at 28.9L in Varial foam. My better wave board is a CI Fever 5'11" x 18 7/8" x 2 3/8" at 27.9L.

The 5'11 Ghost is 19 1/8" x 2 1/2" at 28.7L, the 6'0" is 19 3/8" x 2 9/16" at 29.9L.

I'd be using the Ghost for South LA beachbreak stuff when it's pushing DOH.

Any recommendations? I'd prefer to track down a stock so I'm not waiting for a custom when we're in the season for bigger waves.

Much easier to ride than a dfr or proton.
To properly ride a proton it requires good waves, proper nutrition a good nights sleep, a 12 minute warmup routine and the right attitude.

Then it’s the best HPSB ever made.
I botched so many waves on my DFR, but when I managed to thread the needle, holy moly did it feel good. One of those “only needed one good turn” boards for me.

I eventually lost my patience and got something that wasnt an “everything set to 11“ design.

id be lying if I said it wasn’t because Dane did it first.

I remember GWS telling us about the first proton, was shaped by boning or something like that . That was a good read

I wouldn't try to undersize the Ghost.

I think Aruka is spot on 6'0 stock or possibly even 6'1 stock or 6'2 pro.

If you are using as a step up, foam is your friend. I'm 5'10/160 and went with the stock 6'0 and it seems just about perfect for use as a step up but not too big that if the surf isn't exactly what I was hoping for that it feels too big. I was scared it would be too thick at a hair over 2.5 but it's fine.

The consensus (even Jon Pyzel has mentioned this) is that the Ghost rides longer than its stated length. I had a 6'3 Cordell step up last season that I bought used and the added length was nice for paddling, but as soon as I was into the wave I was bummed how long it felt, which is why I'm shying away from the 6'2 Pro Dims. If that feels more like a 6'3/6'4, I it's not going to get called-up very often around here. Narrowing in on the 6'0 stock.

There is a lot personal/technique distinctions to take into account. I am 5'10 and got a great deal on a 6'1 stock dims. I thought it would only be good in really good beach break conditions in North Carolina where the take off is bowly. I thought the length would make it not work in anything other good chest high.

I have found that it is surprisingly loose and can work on a smaller wave face.

I am stocky and more dwarfish mesomorph kind of body and thus like the way a longer rail feels in carve. I like boards that you can push against and through. If I were going to go custom for a daily driver I would be close to the 6'0 xl size but I am not afraid of the length.

That's my experience for what its worth.

Never tried a DFR.

There’s a lightly used 6’5 round tail proton that apparently belonged to Sebastian Zeits for sale at my local and I’m really really trying hard not to buy it.

Best board ever made if all the stars align.

I agree, such a great board (the Proton) when conditions present themselves and you've eatin your Wheaties.
