My teenagers currently are slated to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle competitions at Mammoth next weekend. We have a plan to drive down this coming Monday and had planned to be shredding all next week as a little family vacation. Now I'm starting to doubt we'll even be able to get there. What an insane winter.

To all you Mammoth 'locs', where would you go for the best most reliable information on long (and short) term weather forecasts both for the mountain and in town, and road information, specifically 395 between Mammoth Lakes and Carson City? I'm glad we have an exceptional snow vehicle but it won't matter if the road isn't open.
He’s just a hobbyists, I believe he’s a real estate agent by his day job, but he’s been covering mammoth and snow specific weather for years and is rarely wrong. And his forecasts are always focused on Mammoth…

also Caltrans District 9’s twitter feed is pretty important for road information..

Last I heard 395 between mono lake and Lee Vining is still closed due to avalanches taking out the road by mono lake. You may already be looking at significant detours to get around that if you’re approaching from the North.

If you do go word is food and waste removal is an issue up there. Grocery store shelves are basically empty. Be a considerate visitor and make a Costco run on your way and bring your own food along with some trash bags and pack out your own trash.

Facebook pages.

Cal Trans has a good app that shows where the plows are

If you do find yourself facing a 395 road closure but can get to the bottom of the 203 a Cop will be there and if your lucky a Cal Trans Escort vehicle can shuttle you down past the Sherwin grade.

Hopefully you can get s little heads up prior. But count on high winds and/or heavy snows shutting the hwy down

Yes, twitter is the place to go for breaking news these days, including road conditions and pics of wherever you're going. Just search on twit and then use that 'latest' tab at the top.
And even some of the comments to a Caltrans District9 Twitter update were really helpful: like I was getting real-time updates from a lady that was in line when they opened 395 N from Bishop on Sunday 2/26 morning, so we knew just when to head up from Bishop when we were waiting with the kids in a diner.
also consider booking a cheap motel room in bishop if you think there’s a chance the highway will be closed. Don’t wait til the evening- we ended up staying at LonePine because every room between Bishop and there was booked. My wife is so stubborn. LOL

And a super bloom too I reckon?
We've got some friends that live in Lancaster and one of the big poppy areas butts up against their property and they told us the best blooms are when they get snow and this year looks like all-time for them.
They said this year's bloom could be the best they'll see.
Word to the wise they say.... Don't even think of coming on the weekends, it's going to be a complete $hit show this sping.

They are predicting heavy lake-level rain at Tahoe, and my people report a lot of roofs are not cleared and will be seriously damaged. Sierra cement at the resorts.
