I'm not sure why the cops let them in? But they probably thought they just wanted to get up to the steps and protest there only, and not try to break in. Most DC protests don't go further than that, but a mix of emotions, bad actors, idiots and instigators made it volatile and some wanted to take it further into "making a statement" instead of just yelling slogans.I’m still not understanding why the cops let the protesters beyond that barrier. Do you have any thoughts on that?
I’m also not sure what you were implying in your post. It seemed like you were implying that it wasn’t a riot because they were allowed in
Was it that theses people were allowed in, and therefore, going through that opening wasn’t wrong?
It got WAY out of hand and turned into nothing better than what we saw in the city streets last summer. I think they figured they could get away with it there too, since it seemed unenforced in our cities? Many then didn't give 2 shtz if they were video'd doing it then, at that time too. The lack of general law enforcement previously just emboldens and enables it further.
The dangerous precedent earlier blew up in DC cops faces this time.
I highly doubt future riots and looting will be tolerated like it was last summer now. Will be interesting if any new BLM/Antifa protests/riots/looting are tolerated the same later this spring and summer when these protests seem to come out of the woodwork again. We'll see if National Guard and other crack-downs get used more immediate?
