How do people surf double overhead top to bottom barrels on a twin fish?

Is it board design? Does it have something to do with people riding them undersized? Is it just magic?

Here’ what I’m talking about:

Those were some solid waves for a stubby little twin. But you would be surprised how far you can push those types of twins. Rail foil and fin outline seems to be the make or break for me and riding a short twin in solid surf.

That was also the best surf vid I’ve seen in awhile.

I think if you’re not used to surfing those waves, you’re not used to the type of commitment you need so it seems off... if you do surf those waves often, and are that committed with your paddling, it doesn’t matter much what you’re on. Surf with some of these guys in those waves and you’ll see right away.

It's not a 6'2" fish and horribly oversized. Plus they're pro's.

Ryan Burch's fish in psychic migrations was 5'2"?
That surfing from Burch made me look at keel twins differently.Hynd and Pacey's surfing piqued my interest, but those lines Burch was able to take, with speed and flow...Ive been trying to get my hands on that footage ever since they put it online free for a day or two.

My current step up is a 5’8 twin keel fish.

I bought it for small surf but found out it works way better in big solid surf.

Is it board design?
Yes.

Four decades ago they were the board of choice here but ridden on their knees:

They were refined purely with the barrel in mind.

And then when they made a comeback, refined for modern, standup riders.

IMO nothing feels more natural in the barrel.

Other than that they're just not that fun to ride. IMO.

Does it have something to do with people riding them undersized?
They're not undersized.

They are just more fun to ride smaller.

Is it just magic?
No, there's a degree of talent combined with the fact some of these guys have dedicated lots of time riding that design. Way more time than most of us would enjoy.

Board did not look out of place or sketchy at all. Short enough so the lack of rocker doesn’t hold you back much fitting into parts of the wave, yet really really fast for how small it is.

I hate the flapping shirt, but the guy rips so..??..
