I posted 2 articles. One about the violence issue, a one about the impact on world trade.

Our trade crosses the Red Sea. is the impact to the American economy something you’re good just leaving to “that region?”

You never actually answer questions here. How about you give this one a shot?

I can’t wait to see GrossBlob’s response. I’m sure it will be well-researched and replete with references. Can‘t wait to see the works cited page.

Is your title referring to shutting down foreign bases?

“Two U.S. warships — the USS Carney and the USS Mason, Navy destroyers — are currently moving through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to help deter and respond to attacks from the Houthis.”

USS Carney - based out of Mayport Naval Station - Jacksonville Florida

USS Mason - based out of Mayport Naval Station - Jacksonville Florida

So this has fuckall to do foreign bases.

Less than ten years ago the left was arguing - correctly - that the reason why muzzies hate us is because we have US bases in muslim countries - all to protect oil companies and other large corporate interests - and we should be closing those bases.

Funny how things change.

Ah, fair point. They are US based, like all US fleets.

But the operation is being led/coordinated by the US Navy from their central Middle east base in Bahrain. That’s where the Defense Secretary is now.

So, as seems to be the clear trend lately, you’re wrong again.

Sure but does operation need to be coordinated from that location and does Def Sec need to be there specifically?

No. We have phones now. We don’t fight battles this anymore….

I noticed you ghosted the “do nothing congress” thread. I guess you read the “branches of government explained for children“ lesson I linked to.

Did you understand it ok or do you still need som help?

Ok, so your suggestion is that we can remove the all Middle East bases and still protect our trade routes/economy from Florida?

Do you think nobody would step in to take our place if we did that? China, our big enemy, perhaps? What could go wrong there…

Honestly, your abortion exemption request thing made more sense.

The answer is to drill our own oil and tell that part of the world to go F itself.
Ok, so you have us nationalizing oil. How very socialist of you.

What about the rest of the economy impacted? 10% of world trade ships through these routs. You willing to take the inflation hit? Willing to lose manufacturing/export reliant jobs? Why do I think not?

You know what, you constantly and consistently misrepresent what I write in an attempt to get me to argue a point that I never made so go fuck yourself.

Does that answer your question?

What have I misrepresented?

Did you not say we should close foreign US bases? I’m asking how that works In situations like this and what the end result would be. So far you said the ships were based in the US, ignoring the actual mission was being led out of Bahrain, and that we don’t need that base. My questions are simple follow ups.

Did you not frown upon the woman in Texas because “she didn’t even apply for an abortion exemption“ as if such a request actually exists? I never did hear your excuse on this.

If you feel you’re repeatedly being misunderstood, maybe the problem is on your end?

Lets be honest here, there is only one product anyone really cares about that is shipped through this route. Lets get it elsewhere.
You act like our economy is imports. Americans export products through these routs too.

But I guess your idea makes sense if it’s limited to the Red Sea. But abandoning bases also leaves the South China Sea open. It leaves Central America/Panama Canal open. It leaves the Strait of Malacca open. Do we just write those routes off too?
