Their brian is smaller than a pea, I dont think they do, afterall they are a exoskeleton, but if they do its over in a second or less, and its not like you could give them a leathal injection..

[This message has been edited by 'fish (edited 05-04-2002).]

Doing various searches it seems that the cooking websites claim that lobsters feel no pain, the PETA type websites insist they do and the scientific websites are in debate.
I figure that if it's alive then it can feel pain.
I also learned that some species of lobster have monogamous partners so when you find two huddled under a shelf take them both or one will be lonely.

One of the few times I was upset about something and wrote a letter about it had to do with a lobster. I was in Lazy Acres market in SB and in the lobster tank was a lobster that was over 60 years old. This thing survived over 6 decades avoiding lobster traps and predators. It was a freak of nature and they were selling it for someones dinner plate. It was HUGE and it cost around $200. The claws were bigger than my hands. It had a pretty cool ending though. Some lady from UCSB bought it for an aquarium. Some things just belong in the ocean and shouldn't be removed.

Captainn- THat brings back memories. My sister is into animal rights and she was so upset with Lazy acres that she couldnt go into the store without crying. She attempted to get the store to buy bigger aquariums and make it more tolerable living conditions on "death row". Needless to say she moved away and is not here.
As for lobster, there have been so many times during the summer (not lobster season) when I can get a legal sized Lobster, a lot of them. Since I caught a white sea bass two years ago and I watched it die Ive decide that I do not eat anything that is not domesticised (sp) so i dont spearfish anymore, I just snorkle and look at the beauty. Im not telling anyone to go vegetarian, just try to cut back on the waistfullness of our resources

Matt, that's pretty cool. I still spearfish and I truly enjoy it, but there's nothing like just enjoying what's underneath the water when the visibility is really clear. I remember you mentioning you've only speared one fish. I'm very conservative when it comes to spearfishing. I think you should only take what you need, and most of the time I don't spear anything. I've never had the urge to catch a marlin or a shark (sport fishing I guess you can call it). It really bums me out to see people taking those gigantic and really old animals from the ocean.

ive fished before when threses no waves. and i think its prettey fun but i never take more fish then what me and my friends are going to want to eat. One day this one guy caught about 30 lincold none were legal size but he kept every single one. Thats how you take all the fish out of the ocean and starve everyone.

Give me a break. Lobster is the best damned tasting food around. When you are feeling sorry for seafood's pain that is going a little too far. Damn I thought the tree huggers in Santa Cruz were bad, but I've never EVER heard anyone bitch about a fish being cooked...
BRING ON THE LOBSTERS!!!!!

That's alot more than I ever knew about lobsters. There's so much to know. I think I'll just stick with the fork, knife, and some warm butter.
