Is that supposed to make it better?
Being unable to see them from shore was an early talking point of the windmill crowd and lying politicians that was quickly debunked once people got to see the plans. From Atlantic City to Seaside Heights, NJ you're going to be looking at a wall off them 9-15 miles from shore and each with a red flashing beacon on it for your night time viewing pleasure so planes don't hit them.

Why are you knowingly posting lies? Its a known fact. They will be plainly visible. As close as 9-miles off the beach and significantly taller than Ocean Casino. Ocean Casino is visible from 20+ miles.
1. i never hear you complaining about the casinos

2. the wind turbines won’t be as close as the casino and you won’ be surfing 9-15 miles out to sea.

I think it’s interesting that to watch grossfat give away the game here. He pivoted from “save the whales” to “buhhhhhh my view!!”

To ifall’s point above, over their lifespan, wind turbines have something like a 40x lower carbon footprint than burning natural gas. IMG_5722.jpeg

ok, setting aside the view issue, are ifail and grossflab ready to say they’re against offshore drilling?

it‘s for the benefit of the whales and the marine life after all.

And the surfers point is goofy.

I could just as easily say I’m surprised surfers wouldnt be in favor of cleaner energy and moving away from oil extracting like what is done with offshore oil. It doesn’t mean anything.

and no one’s said they should be allowed to run amuck either.
I believe I specifically stipulated I was opposed to offshore oil? Didn’t I also stipulate that that if the windmills are the answer they should keep them on land as opposed to putting them in the ocean? I‘m not seeing the “cleaner energy” given those previously stated parameters. Ocean based windmills are no cleaner than land based windmills. It’s just that NIMBY. Humans don’t want them in their backyard and nature doesn’t litigate.

Sorry I missed that, fast reader and probably dyslexic. I’m not opposed to land or sea applications of wind power if done properly. It 100% needs to be regulated and held accountable. There’s always going to be a “not in my backyard” group; land or sea. It’s inevitable.

I’m also not opposed to fossil fuels. I’m not under some illusion of a silver bullet to replace it, at least not yet. Incorporating wind, solar, nuclear and fossil all together is probably our best option available to us right now.

These methods have been used for a very long time in many applications both industrial and military. Yet now they’re suddenly attributed to whale deaths?
let's not forget that large numbers of whale deaths have occurred up and down the eastern seaboard over the last two decades predating any wind farm development

Stop whining. :dancing:

One would hope that the windmills were located in the consistently windiest place. I don’t know if that is true. We’re from the generation of keep sh!t out of the water. I doubt many people in New Jersey gaf.

But how many acres of nature do they ruin compared to a natural gas plant?

“Carbon” is not the be all and end all of pollution/natural destruction

An issue no one has mentioned, is the effect the different anchoring systems of said turbine's have on the ocean floor.
Floating bases are much less expensive to install but their mooring chains completely scour the ocean floor as the floating base moves with wind, swell and tide. Not sure the complete scale but conservatively, let's guess 1,000' diameter swath/turbine * XXXX turbines = a lot of scrubbed ocean floor.
Now, if the pedestal is anchored directly to the seabed, I would think the damage is pretty much isolated to the construction phase and then, they may (like some offshore oil rigs) become a new habitat for sea life.
They are a visual blight, servicing them will generate a lot of offshore marine traffic and they're effect on the marine life of our coastal waters is yet unknown. I lieu of jumping in with both feet, it seems that a few additional pilot projects need to be put through the paces before we deploy 100s - 1000s of them offshore.

First off, the picture you posted is not accurate to the windmills being proposed. Windmills do come in different sizes and the ones being planned for off of NJ are the biggest ones out there.

1. I don't think the topic of casinos has come up. You should start a thread about AC and its casinos. PS: What a shithole.
2. If I walk to the end of my street and look at Atlantic City you are precisely 10.1 miles from the Ocean Casino. I can assure you it is quite plainly visible. Imposing actually. The Atlantic Shores project has windmills as close as 9 miles from the Atlantic City, Brigantine and Long Beach Island beaches. Now keep in mind that the windmills that are going to be built will dwarf Ocean Casino.

Here is a picture I took of Ocean Casino standing on the Ocean City boardwalk at the end of 5th street. This is exactly 9.2 miles. The windmills proposed will be 143 feet taller than the top of the glowing ball on top of Ocean Casino.

Same vantage point on a clear night. In the picture below the top of the proposed windmills would be almost to the top of the frame of the picture.

This graphic shows you how much bigger the latest greatest windmills are compared to those of the past. The source of this picture is a pro windmills site touting these new monstrosities as a good thing.

Another picture taken from the same spot as I took the other pictures above. Need to fix the crooked horizon line on this one but whatever....... That gigantic building in the background is 9.2 miles away. The windmills will be this same distance off of NJ beaches and 143 feet taller than that building.
