That guy ripped do hard, had such good style, and seemed like an all around great guy. Had a sick rvca poster of him on my bedroom growing up. RIP Mikala and prayers for all the Jones family. At least it was doing what he loved but can't imagine dealing with this in such a remote place. RIP Mikala

Same thing happened on my Indo trip, kind of off the beaten path(Hinakos), guy on a boat had a severe cut on inside of thigh. The owner of of our camp had to stitch him up inside and outside, said the Femoral was missed by mm's.
So sad. A few years back one of my boys pulled into a closeout barrel and took a fin 2" deep into the back of his thigh requiring an ER visit. Luckily it didn't hit anything. He didn't realize the seriousness of that sort of injury. Really freaked me out. The high end fins we put in our boards are unnecessarily sharp and dagger like in my humble opinion.
Was always kind and present in the line up, someone you'd have no issue with in regards to giving him space and respect in the water, rest in peace Mikala, wish it wasn't so.
