I'm on the Sunshine coast in Qld. The only lockdown here was last year in the first stage of Covid's arrival. There was a period a few months back where they made mask wearing in public mandatory for a week.

How did that go with line ups like burleigh heads any less crowded?

In Queensland.

Other areas seem to be in and out.

So what is the plan?

And what about tourism and for you guys to be able to leave on vacation?

only Melbourne (one city) in Aus has had any major lockdowns.

for the rest of the country, Covid has barely existed.

hardly any cases, hardly any deaths.

feels like something happening in another universe to be honest.

Eventually, enough people will get vaccinated and they'll open the borders.

people are in no rush for it though: Fuk tourism.

This comes up often among my conversations. Here on the Sunny coast at least, even Melbourne's lockdown feels like another universe.

Ignoring the country's financial impact, conspiracies and controversy, COVID's made my life better in an awful lot of small ways :D The only place I'd want to travel to is Indo, fuck the rest of the world.

yep.

tourism is a long dick in the guts, especially the mass market tourism.

feels like a slight reprieve from rampant globalisation and I reckon that is why the border closures are so popular electorally.

30000 cases, 900 deaths, most of which have been old people in Melbourne nursing homes.

not even as bad as a bad flu season.

Do you plan to take the vaccine?

Not sure if you like to travel, but if you do, how many years are you willing to tolerate being prohibited from leaving the island?

I reckon I'll be back in Indo or Fiji next year.

I'm not prohibited. I can pay extra and go or go to NZ,

going to a sub-tropical island in Aus territory in Nov for surf.

Home office says basically everyone is prohibited to leave Aus unless extraordinary circumstances or traveling to New Zealand (?)

The only way possible to maintain the current OZ/NZ minimal corona state of affairs is if at minimum all of the above happen:
-pretty much everyone gets vaccinated - really high numbers, 80%+ kinda thing
-new variants don't cause a problem
-no unauthorized humans slip through the border and no corona test fails for travelers.

I would guess you're looking at a few years of border controls and travel prohibitions for OZ/NZ citizens.

How many Taj "Wacko" Burrows are there?

possibly.

there's sh!t tons of surf in Oz, so no drama if we can't go OS.

I imagine the travel bubble with NZ will expand presently, to include Fiji, New Cal, etc etc.

I'll go to NW/WA if I need some backlit barrelling lefts before then.

Like I said, people don't seem in any rush.

that may change.

Aussie economy is going gangbusters, unemployment now lower than pre-pandemic etc etc.

Are most people you know eager to get vaccinated?

not really.
most people are slowly but surely getting around to it though.

There'll be a significant percentage who won't though.

hard to say whether that will be > or < than 20%

There are seemingly a fair few "Bill Gates wants us to inject his 5g sperm into us" like Taj, but it's hard to tell because of the distortion social media creates. Whether it's vocal minorities and Karens that "have done their research", or a large proportion of the populous I honestly don't know.

Even in my direct circles its hard to tell because of how skewed the sample is. I work in software development, so many of the people I'd encounter at work have similar "more scientific leaning traits". To answer your question directly, most people I know are having vaccinations.

No one in Nimbin is getting vaccinated :p
