As lame as the WSL is it is still nice to watch the contests when the surf is cranking.

Interesting slow motion of Jeremy Florez bottom turning and hitting the lip. With the footage slowed way down you could really see how his board on rail was cutting through a very bumpy face. Cool piece of camera work.

Is there a specific reason (other than "because the women can't surf it") they're not running at The Box?

I hear they are going to finish the men's first round, run the men's next round, then women's (they're probably hoping the swell will have declined quite a bit by then).

Overlapping heats at some point today.

saw malia post some footy at the box. i know a few others would charge it. not sure why they would hold back . run it.

but on the other hand, main break is good, clean and contestable. Looks like sunset.

I really don't get it with The Box. I don't have much interest in watching heats held there. I think its a terrible wave for a surf contest. You want to make The Box interesting to me run it as four man heats with no priority and hockey fights in the water.

Those rides are a perfect example of why I think that spot is a terrible place to hold contest heats.

I like watching the pros in challenging surf, beats the hell out of air reverses at trestles.
