I think you misunderstood Xanadu's opinion of the Skil, he praises it as a great tool for shaping, in fact the best for rails.Greg Griffin said:

Skil planer is capable of way more than a Hitachi .
Rocker , Bottom contours , Rails , Deck curve and foils carved out of the blank , not cross cut in then blended .
Like I posted earlier I doubt anyone here knows about this .
