These three, to me, have the best shot at taking the title this year. Occy, because this is his best start to a WCT season and Bells is next. Seems to be fine form. Egan, well each year he seems to edge closer to the top. This could be his year if he doesn't fall into the runner's up trap. Slater, seems to be hungry enough this year. Would imagine he would like to dedicate a world title to his father.

Of course, can't count out any number of guys: Irons, both Lopez bros., Fanning or Parko. I'd love to see somebody like Pat O'Connell just have an amazing year.

Call me unpatriotic but I would love to see a Brazillian or an Aussie win a world title. In both countries surfing is second only to Futbol(footie in Oz).

However my money is on Andy Irons for a repeat or Slater to do something superhuman.

It would be great to see Dean Morrison win the title, as he's as smooth and stylish as anyone since Curren. That aside, I'm going to say either Parko or Fanning is going to be World Champion this year.

He won't win the title, but I'm hopin for a top 10 finish for Pat O'Connell. Got to pull for my old surfing bro from high school. Unfortunately, he doesn't normally get the "wow" factor from the judges, so I think his chances are slim! Either way, he's got great style, he can surf waves with ease from 2 to 15 feet, and he's a good guy to boot!

That would be insane if pat-o would get it!! Maybe they would stop callin' him the "little guy"!He ripped at the quick...hands down,against the OCC! Imagine the pressure with all those coolie kids on the beach! I could see it going down to the wire with Andy Irons and Slater. Fanning is right on the bubble too.

Not to discount his ability to pull off the impossible, but I think that the old days of everyone laying down in the path of the Slater freight train are over. There are a number of guys (AI and the Coolies in particular) who are just as skilled and competative as Slater. And definitely don't underestimate Luke Egan's hunger to fianally get the world title that he deserves. It would be cool to see Slater finish his career with a bang, but it seems like a long shot...

in terms of dark horses, It seems that guys like Mick Lowe and Danny Wills are always there or thereabouts. In reality they have as much chance as winning it as the 'megastars' like parko/irons etc.

I reckon both Taj Burrow and Cory Lopez are worthy of world titles for sure - whether they win or not is a different matter

i think there's gotta be at least 10 guys who could win. there's the old guard of sunny (who i don't want to win), luke, occy, slater (sort of old guard) who have got the experience to win a title. then there's the young guns, irons, parko, fanning, deano, taj etc who have shown they can put it together in the small stuff of kirra and brazil and still perform at pipe and teahupoo. it all comes down to consisteny with a world title as cj hobgood showed - winning a title without winning a single ct event.

personally i would like to see egan finally win a world title with slater up there a close second.

by the way, when are surfermag gonna get their arses in gear and get another fantasy surfer game on the go? the last one was a good laugh.
