Prior to W, political lunacy wasn't nearly as widespread. Then social media started and smartphones became available and it became only a click away. I did not like the mean way the far left treated W and the moderate Dems did nothing to stop them.
Then Obama came along right around the same time Twitter did and the right really came unglued. The tea party decided it was OK to be in-your-face mean, the racists came out from under their rocks, and the moderate Repubs did nothing to stop them.
