When to go to Philippines for surf???

A friend is going and wants me to go, but I only want to go during swell, and then I wanted to venture off somewhere else too for a boat trip during same trip... any info would be appreciated.

Planning a surf trip there when the political unrest subsides. So many islands present for undiscovered surf. Literally thousands!

Thanks guys- as I am completely clueless about the world outside So Cal, how bad is the 'civil unrest'? I saw a few post about poorer areas and guns, but are we talking near civil war or something <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />... I'm totally clueless <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/hah.gif" alt="" /><img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />

My buddy runs a martial arts school here and is going to visit friends and fight a fight over there, but all I want to do is surf... sounds like I should go ~December to c9 for 2 weeks and let him go off solo and do his fight/buddy thing for a week.

There's only so much I'm willing to do in a 2-3 week time period. I don't want to be 'planes, trains, and auto's' the whole time.

And Reeker (or anybody else around here)- my buddy's having a organized martial arts event this Sat (30th)in Talega... kid matches all the way up to big mo-fo's, kegs flowing, & BBQ... let me know if anybody's interested.
