Oceanslide??? what was your go to fin set up on the SHADOW? for your trip.
Since the surf where we were was at least head-high each
day and the wave there is steep and fast, I actually ran the
Shadow as a quad the whole time. Both the BKQ set and Belik
Stilleto set worked great!

just for starters i would say half the weight , deeper double concaves and more nose and tail " flip ". modern soft to hard with sharp edges in the tail . and cool custom fins made out of fiber glass .

<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rockin.gif" alt="" />

outline looks similar

Hard to say from a pic (and never having seen the Larmo
in person), and Fishface would be the only one who could
say for sure since he used to own the Larmo, and currently
seems to love his Shadow.
From that pic though, the nose looks slightly wider on the
Larmo, tail looks slightly more pin-ish, there's no elevated
wing (and two bump/wings as well instead of one).
I'd also imagine the bottoms and rails are fairly different from one
another, but I couldn't be sure without actually seeing one.

sorry to bug you on this but im seriously considering getting one of these and there isnt a shop near me that i can feel one up. would you say the rails on the shadow are more shortboard/modern fishy or retro and full? i have a larmo DT quad that i love but just want something else as my "swiss army knife" board.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.
If you've felt up a Hynson Black Knight Quad or BKQII, the
rails are similar on this. IMO, the rails are a great
balance between being user friendly and performance oriented.
I bit fuller through the middle (not "retro" feeling at all
though) but more foiled and shortboard-ish towards the nose
and especially the tail, which is pretty thinned out. The
combo makes turns easy, but still gives you some bite to
whip in the pocket better than a "retro fish" or similar.
Hope that helps.

Damn, I miss surfing mine now. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I'm logging more water time on this bad boy, and then I'll post a review. The waves have been small and boggish so it's been hard to open up.

So far... catches waves like a mofo!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rockin.gif" alt="" />

silly question: how is the shadow different from this
larmo?
just for starters i would say half the weight -Yep
deeper double concaves - nope - larmo has some deep concave in that one

more nose and tail " flip " - Yep.
modern soft to hard with sharp edges in the tail - yes and no .
cool custom fins made out of fiber glass . - not sure

outline looks similar - yep

So that KG round tail fish was my old board. Interesting that my go-to fin setup was the MR template and trailer.. That was a fun board. It had a much flatter rocker which made it fun on the slopey waves. I had some trouble with it in the steeper beach breaks... I missed it a lot until I got the Von Sol.

You have that larmo DT quad which is much more foiled and rockered than the typical Mabile fish. I'd be interested in seeing a roundtail DT...

Anyways I've been having fun on the shadow for a couple months. A ton of wax has built up on it so i know its been getting used... The twins are the way to go for anything headhigh and under- makes the board extremely fast and loose. I use the PC5 and GXQ quads for the quads... So if you order one - I'd suggest getting the twins over the belik stilettos... Mattison gives you the choice.

Yep... The rails are the same as the Black Knight boards... I like to think of this thing as a round tail BKQ and the BK's were my all time favorite fish. I sold my epoxy BKII to pay for the shadow and I havent regretted it.

One last thing. I've been a MAJOR board whore trying out nearly everything out there. Ever since I got this thing, I really havent been looking for anything else (except for a coil). Its pretty much a quiver killer.

the shadow and the xanadu gipos are the 2 boards that look like the right fit. just sucks i havent seen either in the north east <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif" alt="" />
