Who knew? This is an outrage!!

Scott Sheffield, founder and longtime CEO of a leading American oil producer, attempted to collude with OPEC and its allies to inflate prices, federal regulators alleged on Thursday.

The Federal Trade Commission said Sheffield, then CEO of Pioneer Natural Resources, exchanged hundreds of text messages discussing pricing, production and oil market dynamics with officials at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC, the oil cartel led by Saudi Arabia.

Regulators say Sheffield used WhatsApp conversations, in-person meetings and public statements to try to “align oil production” in the Permian Basin in Texas with that of OPEC and OPEC+, the wider group that includes Russia.

“Mr. Sheffield’s communications were designed to pad Pioneer’s bottom line — as well as those of oil companies in OPEC and OPEC+ member states — at the expense of US households and businesses,” the FTC complaint said.

Unlike with OPEC nations, US oil production is supposed to be decided by the free market, not by coordination among the major players.

Sheffield retired in December 2023 as CEO of Pioneer. The company he founded is the biggest producer in the Permian Basin, the abundant oil field that has helped make the US the world’s top producer of oil and gas.

Easy solution - liquidate his entire net worth and redistribute to every American. Feed him the commodity value of the ill-gotten gains. At least in his case, only a few quarts of oil would do it.

Do the same for the rest of the gougers.

I bet there's around $30-50 trillion dollars going around in not all that many tight pockets.

No new being printed so inflation shouldn't be as much of a factor, even if more in circulation.

But alas - those who hold the reins of justice are earning together with the pricks.

Maybe Gromsdad can stop bitching? Of course not, it is his entire deplorable personality.
So... let's think this through.

I am greatly in favor of the US being energy sufficient, and producing oil.

But, didn't Biden take office vowing to shut down production, and kaboshed the keystone pipeline project at the cost of wasting billions and pissing off the Canucks?

Yet we, and the Canucks keep producing oil which is shipped by rail and tanker truck instead of a pipeline? That's more environmentally friendly and safer, right?

And now he tells the Ukrainians to quit droning Russian Oil depots so he can keep gas prices down in hopes of being re-elected? All the while we have sanctions on Russian oil.

Confusing.

Putting this together, Biden's energy strategy is completely incoherent and nothing more than pandering for votes.

This all can be true and have noting to do with gromsdads anti factual bitching about not enough production here.

Complicated but not confusing. Everything is sold on the world market through a complicated web of brokers and networks. To say that a certain commodity can only be used in the country/continent of production is the antithesis of the free market.
