Journalists sell one thing: their credibility. The story they're reporting is only marketable to the extent people believe the credibility of their reporting. The expectations for journalists are different than for most other occupations. They're not real estate developers or car salesmen or attorneys or politicians who are commonly expected to advocate their positions by hook or by crook.
Like it or not, we expect all politicians - including the POTUS - to be blatant advocates for their political interests, not neutral 3rd party observers. So no, as far as impartiality and objectivity goes we have different expectations for journalists than for politicians. And that's precisely why the journalists are taking a beating in public opinion right now - because they're going beyond merely acting as the fly in the room (which is their job) and making themselves part of the story (which is not their job).
And BTW, there aren't but maybe a few of Trump's supporters - let alone everyone else - who think he's completely honest or has high personal integrity. His peeps support him *despite* being aware of his personal weaknesses and not because he's somehow fooled them into thinking he has no such weaknesses.

It is obvious that if Trumps obvious proven constant lying does not bother you, nothing he does will.
I think it's safe to say that most of his supporters think the things he's doing that they like justify putting up with the things he does that they don't like.
