Both the Left and the Right have a lot of problems with Muslims.
The Right makes Muslims into living devils, or at least useful boogiemen for all kinds of issues both here and abroad. However. most Muslims are philosophically aligned with the Right on many social issues such as abortion, sex and gender stuff, etc. So the Right likes to have them as allies, too.
The Left likes Muslims because they are useful as an oppressed group, especially in any discussion of Israeli affairs. Since Muslims in America have been victims of discrimination, especially in the aftermath of 9/11, they are natural allies of many on the Left. However, that pesky social and moral conservativism make it really difficult for the Left to be full allies with most Muslims.
I love watching the Right and the Left tie themselves in knots over stuff like this. Bunch of self-righteous assholes.
