Oh what happen to making sure the troops get paid!?!? As usual talking from both sides of his mouth. Must be an East Coast thing.
He probably figures he's got nothing to lose. Public opinion favors DACA-with-strings and more border enforcement.
According to the most recent Harvard-Harris poll (01/2018)
81% favor either maintaining (18%) or reducing (63%) current levels of legal immigration
61% oppose the random diversity lottery
79% think we need more secure borders
61% think the existing border security is inadequate
54% support building physical and electronic barriers across the border
78% support giving Dreamers work permits
79% support giving them a path to citizenship,
But,
60% oppose giving preference to the relatives of Dreamers
79% favor vetting immgrants for their ability to contribute, not whether they already have family in the US
58% oppose the Democrats voting to shut down government over the restoring DACA work permits
If Trump actually is amenable at all to a compromise of any sort the most likely compromise would put him right in the middle of these opinion trends.
