Has anybody gone down to Peru for a surf trip before. I am thinking about going there this May and was looking for a little advice. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Same as above. I went there sept 04 and went up north, to dreamy chicama. Stay at Huanchaco, a suburb of Trujillo, and Keep checking the internet( a lot of cafes) for the swell. Once U see it will hit, arrange the day-trip to chicama. In Huanchaco, go talk to Carlos, at the surfing school. He'll help u out with anything, and introduce u to some of the locals (Very friendlly and very good surfers). Those guys are so nice that a gave my board bag , a leash, and a wax bar to the scholl. Plus I sold a Very nice and new board for U$50 to one of them.Consistent waves, cheap living. Pay to have your bags wrapped in hat cellophane stuff flying back out of Lima airport
Great vibe in the water, most spots had about 8 - 15 people MAX. Got some great days with only about 4-5 people out. Spring suits & 3/2's work until their winter (our summer ) then a 4/3 might be good idea. booties and reef booties are a good idea, very rocky. Most spots break a little far out good paddling boards help Bring some warmer clothes take a flight ($160 US) to Cusco and train to Machu Picchu...Awe inspiring.
Can't wait to go back
