I will be arriving in sri lanka around may 2005 time. Anyone know if i can rent / buy half decent short board (6'6'' ish) while i'm out there.
Any other advice about travelling / surfing there would be welcome aswell. Cheers! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

go to gallle habour, where the yachts are, by the naval basin, ask for andrew wajerasinka the tuk tuk driver.... he knows all the spots, and there is a surf shop on the south west coast, i forget the name sorry, nice waves in medigama. i hope andrew is still around there as i have not heard from him since mid dec.

Oh´yeah, Arugam bay on the East side for sandbottom pointbreaks and Hikkaduwa to the southwest for peaky reef surf.

While Midigama is a lovely village with a sweet righthander, it won't be working in May, as the west coast is entering into monsoon season. You'll absolutely need to bring your own board - unless you're prepared to pay way over the odds for an ancient orange log, and Arugam bay will be the place to go.

Arugam took a pretty big hit from the tsunami, but toursit bucks will be a god-send, so don't let it deter you! Also, thanks to help from a lot of Western regulars and surf companies, the reconstruction will be well underway by May I would have thought.

I did want to suggest Hikkaduwa (that was badly hit & some deaths), but totally biased, 'cause my daughter had left friends there. Actually she spent a month in Hikkaduwa learning to surf. But, I think that Arugam Bay needs you most. As a tourist. Don't know what state it will be in by May, but at least the waves will still be there for you!! I should take your own board, as recommended. Don't know how to send attachments with this post, but if you Google Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka, you will get a page, dated today from Sri Lanka, practically begging for help!!!!!!!! On Google, go to the heading "Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka and the Tsunami" Mary from England. Novice on the computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a wonderful experience there XXXXX Big hug.
