Small quad trailers

Has anyone tried a quad configuration similar to the Dane Reynold’s twad with big upright twins and small quad trailers. I tend to like twins more than quads but this seems like a cool set up. Thanks for any input.

Have a friend who owns a Twad with those fins. He surfs the board really well and the set up seems to work. Haven’t seen any other fin combo in that design. So YMMV

My favorite smaller rear quad set is the Rusty. Not sure if it’s still in stock. It was available in Futures at one point.

These are a favorite of mine for small waves. They’re the “R3” template.

fronts are a proper 4.5”h M/L sized upright template and the rears are 3.75” 50/50 foil, iirc.

no where as loose as a twin but easily tweak at the end of a cutback if that’s your thing. I don’t much like them above shoulder high.

My 5150 has quad cluster inch forward on back fins qnd I run FU 2win twin set fiberglass aprx 5.5"h 5.25" b front and FU S1 quad rears 50/50 4"h ?b rears. This combo was recommended to me from Dylan and Stretch after I asked for twin 5150. Team riders Graves and Picon both rode 5150s with this set up and got it dialed:shaka:

Maybe try contacting rusty.

Back when the LJ boardroom was still a thing I distinctly remember seeing some R3 template on the wall behind the register that were not “futures” branded.

I haven’t seen them listed by futures for some years now. Imo def worth chasing down if you’re one of those inbetween M/L fin peeps.

Agree it does look like a nice template. I think I have some oldskool plastic ones kicking around somewhere. Kind of surprising that R. doesn’t have a current Futures fin. How the mighty have fallen? Also wish theyd bring back the Stumps fin too

They used to give the plastic 5 fin set w/ v2 foil with a new board.

I have a set… somewhere.

I ride lots of big, swept thruster fronts with smaller flat sides - GL and GX. A shitload. I ran the Harley Ingleby fronts with a variety of trailers and they were okay. I also use the log side bites behind keels as fronts in the Bean Bags. Also my preferred setup for the Hydra, although that board didn't 'get going' until chest high and kind of good so I peddled it.

I've ridden the Twad fins a few sessions in my Gibbons fish. I really like em. Very different feel than a balanced setup.
Much looser, pivots easier and feels a bit more lively to me. Took a few waves to get used to them because they feel so different than a regular quad setup. Overall they are super fun and would recommend them to change things up. I wouldn't want them in bigger punchy groundswell. I'd go with my Fascinations for that. But for small days, they are a blast.
