Looking to get a better wave board for my growing 15 year old. He's 6'0" 165 lbs and put on about 20 lbs in the last year. He's riding a stock 5'6" Astro Pop (19 1/2" x 2 5/16", 27.8L) and a 5'6" Eric Christenson Frodo (quad fish) at the moment. Surfing mostly in So. Cal. (North LA). This is about 65 lbs below my wheelhouse, so need some suggestions. Looking for something for when the Astro Pop is not going to be a viable option.

Pyzel guys were suggesting a 6'1" or 6'2" Ghost Pro (28.5 or 29.7L). I saw an Oak Foils on CList that was 6'1" x 19 1/4 x 2 5/8. Wondering if 2 5/8 might be too much foam. What Stamps models would be good?

What are you 165 pounders riding?

Here dims from my son when he was 6'1"x 170....lost V2HP 6'2"x19x2.44x30L from shapers recommendation. this would be high performance. if its your boys first hpsb probably add to dims, a tad or not as he will likely adjust quickly. 2.58 is way to thick as the rails will be to boaty to lay over making in more of a boat than HP

I'm pretty much the same height and weight and don't like anything over 2 3/8" thick. My 5'11 stock Channel Islands Fever in Spine-Tek is my good wave board. If you're wanting to stay in the Pyzel family, I think a stock 5'10" Pyzalian 2 would be a better choice than the Ghost for north LA County. I've never ridden a Stamps.

Probably the 6’1 ghost at 28.5, adequate foam for a young chap with plenty of energy. For SoCal this isn’t the ideal board anyway, you may want to look at the shadow instead. Have both and the shadow can grovel decently and will be better across a wider variety of conditions, can handle overhead waves with push under the right user input.

sounds too thick for 15 yrs old. Keep it under 2 1/2
Agree Pyzalien2 or Phantom/Shadow seems like it might be a better choice for "good" N LA waves. GhostPro seems like overkill except the 5 biggest days of the year, or he's chasing slabs/tubes, IMHO.

Ditto on the ghost overkill. Might also want to take a look at the pyzel slab if you’re going to go custom

Re stamps, I use my Blindspot as a better wave board and Scarecrow as a good wave board. Just email Tim and he will get you guys dialed in
